She Asked a Customer to Turn On Their Porch Light for Future Deliveries—He Reported Her to DoorDash, and Now Her Job Could Be on the Line

I don’t know about you, but I’m the type of person who always leaves my porch light on at night if I know I have food or something else being delivered.
Because, as a former delivery driver, I will say it can get pretty tricky out there when you’re fumbling around on a pitch-black night with no clue where you’re headed.
Ugh!
In today’s story, a DoorDash driver talked about how a simple request turned into a bunch hullabaloo.
Read on and see what you think about what went down.
AITA for asking a customer to turn on their porch light next time they order from DoorDash?
“I’m a 19 year old female.
I DoorDash from 6 pm-9 pm.
It gets dark around 7:45 and I sometimes deliver in more rural areas that don’t have street lights or have very few street lights.
I received an order and got to the restaurant as soon as possible was told it would be 10-15 minutes so I let the customer know I was waiting for their order, I didn’t get a reply and I’m not given an option to call the customer on the dasher app.
The order end up taking 30 minutes to be ready, the customer is alerted when I pick it up and when I’m on my way, it’s 15 minutes away from their house and traffic is bad but I still make it in good time, I’m driving down the street.
DoorDash maps can either be super accurate with where the house it or super inaccurate.
It was like grasping at straws…in the dark.
I can’t see the house numbers two houses are blocked by cars and I stop where the DoorDash map tells me to stop, it’s a guessing game for what house it is but I luckily check the right one first, I notice they have one of the ring doorbells and I set the food down, take the confirming picture and finish the dash.
Before I leave I ask them “could you maybe turn your porch lights on next time? Thanks.”
That escalated quickly!
And go back to my car and decide I’m to frustrated from traffic and situation to be doing another dash so I go home, on my way home I’m in line to get food in a drive through and the customer messages me threatening me that they will be reporting me for being disrespectful using “”thanks”” at the end of their message with the quotations.
I had told them I couldn’t see their house number and I was just asking if they could turn their lights on next time and that they were being disrespectful. I also informed them that I would be reporting them as well and I genuinely thanked them for their business.
These people sound unhinged…
They then informed me that I found their house just fine, that they have cameras all around their house, that they would be screenshotting the messages and sending the video to DoorDash to report me.
I did report them cause DoorDash asks to report if a customer is creating an unsafe environment and not having your lights on is considered an unsafe environment to DoorDash.
AITA for asking them to turn them on next time?”

This really was not a big deal..
At all!
Who would get upset about something like this?
So weird!
It sounds like these customers overreacted just a bit…
