I work as a bartender at a an Italian chain restaurant in the suburbs of Massachusetts.

I’ve been there for a little over six years now and all the employees joke about the place having some bad juju.

Since I’ve worked there we have had a police shooting, bomb scare, two cars drive into the building, someone have a heart attack, someone have a stroke, and many other bizarre incidents.

So last weeks incident just adds to the amount of weird things that have happened.

A customer ordered takeout.

A few days ago, a lady comes in for takeout about ten minutes before we close. My bar is right next to the takeout counter.

I watch the lady order a couple pizza and say to the takeout girl she is going to wait in her car while the food is cooking.

I’m cleaning up and doing my side work and notice it’s been about a half and hour since this lady has ordered and her food is ready. But she hasn’t come back in yet.

The girl working carryout wants to leave but is just waiting for this lady to come get her food.

Yikes! This is getting intense!

I tell her maybe she should look outside and see if she is in her car.

The parking lot is pretty much empty at this point so the girl goes out to try to find the woman.

A few minutes later, the carryout girl runs back into the restaurant. She runs up to the manager screaming that the lady who ordered carryout was slumped over in her car and won’t wake up.

Me and some of the servers who were finishing up run outside.

She’s really out of it.

This lady’s car was still on and she was slumped over almost all the way under the steering wheel.

We open her car door and try to shake her but she’s not responding.

A few of the waitresses are also in school for nursing and try doing a sternum rub ( rubbing your knuckles on the person’s chest) and she starts to perk up a bit, but only slightly. She is able to mumble her name and age, but she is barely conscious.

Someone had called 911 and the police and ambulance start to arrive.

OP didn’t stick around to see how everything worked out.

At this point, are manager suggest we all go inside and let the police do their jobs.

Now I’m not sure what happened to the lady after that, our manager was pushing us to finish up and clock out.

But I did watch her car get towed and the fire trucks and police leave eventually.

This is an unusual request.

A few days later, I’m working my normal bar shift. I hear the phone ring and the girl working carryout picks up, presumably to take a carryout order.

I look over and watch her make a strange face while putting the caller on hold.

She walks over to me: “ hey, where is (manager)? There is a lady on the phone who says she overdosed in the parking the other day and wants her money back for her pizza”.

Flabbergasted, I go into the office and grab my manager.

The manager needed details.

Now this Manager was not there the night that the incident happened, but had heard the details. She takes the phone call in the office.

Afterwards, she comes over to me behind the bar and asked me exactly what happened that night.

Apparently, not only was she angry that she didn’t get her pizza, but she claimed that she was angry that we had called the police.

She claimed she was just tired.

She had just worked a 13 hour shift and was just fell asleep in her car.

She was also mad her car got towed.

My manager refunded the money to her credit card, but we were both shocked at how delusional this lady was.

I don’t think I’d want to work at that restaurant. Too many weird things keep happening. This story is a great example of the craziness. I’d hate to hear the details of the others. Surely, there’s a less crazy place that’s hiring in town where OP could work.
