If you live somewhere where it snows a lot in the winter, and if you have to park your car outside on the street, you probably know that it’s common curtesy not to park in a street parking spot that someone else shoveled out.

What would you do if you spent three hours shoveling snow out of a parking spot, and then your neighbors parked in that spot?

In this story, one homeowner is in that exact situation, and he’s furious. He decides not to knock on his neighbor’s door. He handles it another way, but he doesn’t seem satisfied with how his neighbors handled it.

I share a side of the street with two other houses.

Unfortunately both homes are occupied by trashy people.

Constant barking animals, ATVs in the streets, cops in and out all the time, etc. Just what you’d expect.

Snow can make parking complicated.

We were all in the big blizzard recently.

Of the three houses referenced here (mine and my two neighbors), I am the only one who shoveled my car/spot out so I could continue parking on the curb – they and their combined ~5 vehicles have just decided to park where the snow ends and turn our street into a de-facto one way.

This also results in far less efficient parking… the street can usually house 10 cars comfortably but due to their parking however the heck they feel like they can get like 3 out there at most.

The neighbors broke the number one rule of parking in the winter.

To this point there have been no issues with parking besides that.

Until yesterday, when one of the two (haven’t been able to determine which) had a bunch of guests, one of whom took the spot my son and I spent three hours digging out in the cold.

I know this car is one of their friends because I see it on the block quite a bit in front of both their houses.

I wasn’t sure which house the car belonged to and beating on both doors in search of whoever did it would’ve very likely could’ve resulted in someone calling the cops, because I was freaking MAD.

He handled the situation another way.

So I parked them in as close as humanly possible without rubbing paint (with the little bit of dug-out space left over) and sat with my door open so I could go watch/record them try to back out with a snowbank on one bumper and my car on the other.

I had to park perpendicular to their bumper to accomplish this but what do you know – my car still didn’t stick as far out as any of my lazy neighbors’.

I then left a polite note on their front glass telling them to come peck on my front door when they were ready to get out of the spot I dug out for myself.

They didn’t take me up on that offer, which was unfortunate, but I just ran out to run some errands the next morning and in the 15 minutes I was gone they decided to move. The note I left on their windshield was on the ground.

It’s not illegal, but it’s definitely annoying.

I know technically they weren’t in the wrong – there is no assigned street parking.

But it’s also kinda telling that a bunch of people who are too lazy to shovel out their own spot have no problem stealing someone else’s instead of inconveniencing themselves for a minute.

The neighbors really should’ve known better than to park there.

This is a good point. The person who parked there may not have known.

Thankfully, I don’t live somewhere where I have to worry about shoveling out parking spots. Even when I did live where it snows a lot in the winter, I had a garage where I could park my car.

That said, I understand why OP is upset. The neighbors were pretty inconsiderate to park there.
