Man’s Chicken And Vegetables Kept Disappearing, But He Had No Proof His Housemate Was Taking Them

Shared kitchens can become difficult when roommates stop respecting each other’s food.
The following story is about a man who lives in a hostel with other tenants and shared 2 kitchens with them.
He bought chickens and vegetables and planned to meal prep for the week.
However, he discovered that his ingredients were missing.
Even though he suspects one of the tenants of cooking his food, he still had no solid proof that they took his ingredients.
Let’s take a closer look!
Thief in our Hostel
In our WG, we have 2 separate kitchens. One is small, and the other is larger.
My 2 friends and I use the smaller one, and the other 6 use the larger one.
We all are immigrants from different countries doing our Ausbildung here in Germany.
And there’s this problem that we are facing.
Our food gets stolen from the kitchen repeatedly, and this problem was only there in the larger kitchen.
This man wanted to prepare his meals for the week, but all his ingredients were gone.
They all suspected this one tenant from Cameroon, and there, I thought that they were racially profiling him.
I felt bad for him and asked to switch over to our kitchen, and he’s been there for a month now.
Today, I woke up late and wanted to meal prep for the week.
When I got into the kitchen, he was there cooking and was a bit surprised to see me.
Then, when I opened the fridge, all my chicken and veggies were gone.
He was there in front of me, cooking with each of the ingredients that I was missing.
The other tenant denied that he took his food.
So, I just asked him whether or not he took anything.
He replied quite nervously, saying he doesn’t need to take anybody else’s supplies.
Man, I lost it there, but I had no proof that those were my things.
I didn’t label them, as I didn’t need to earlier because we all had an agreement on which shelf who’ll keep their stuff.
Now, he’s left with nothing to cook or eat.
So now, what’s gone is gone.
I wanted to ask if it is legal to place one of those mini cameras on the fridge without asking anybody else’s permission.
Or do you have any other suggestions for me to keep my things safe?
Anyways, here I am stuck on a Sunday without having anything to eat and cook with.
So those of you also staying in WG, look after your things.

Whoa! Poor OP. Finding your groceries being cooked right in front of you would be incredibly frustrating.
The sad thing about it is that he had no way to prove they were his.
Perhaps labeling his food and keeping a clear record of what belongs to him may help prevent another dispute.
