Doodle 4 Google is a competition open to K-12 students of U.S. schools to create their own Google doodle. This year’s theme for the doodles is “If I could travel in time, I’d visit…”

Google has been hosting the Doodle 4 Google competition every year since 2008. Now in their fifth year, the top 50 winners (10 for each age category) have been selected for 2012. With over 114,000 entries, the top 50 are now vying for the following prizes:
 
One (1) National Winner
The National Winner will have his or her doodle featured on the U.S. Google.com homepage. He or she will be awarded a $30,000 college scholarship to be used at the school of his or her choice, a trip to New York for an event on May 17, 2012, a Google Chromebook computer, a Wacom digital design tablet, and a t-shirt printed with his or her doodle on it. We’ll also award the winner’s full time school a $50,000 technology grant towards the establishment or improvement of a computer lab or technology programming.
 
Four (4) National Finalists
Each of the other four National Finalists will win a $5,000 college scholarship to be used at the school of their choice, a trip to New York for the final event on May 17, 2012, a Wacom digital design tablet, and a t-shirt printed with their doodle on it.
 
Fifty (50) State Winners
Each of the other 50 State Winners will win a trip to New York for the final event on May 17, 2012 and a t-shirt printed with their doodles on it. All 50 Regional Finalists will also have their doodle displayed in a special exhibit at the New York Public Library.
 
 
The fifty state winners are listed below by age group. To vote for any particular doodle, simply click the image to be taken to the voting page on Google’s official contest site. This is a wonderful display of creativity from young people and it’s interesting to see their artistic skills develop as they mature.

Egypt. I would want to visit Egypt because there are so many wonders of their civilization. The pyramid of Giza, their Pharoh and much more. I could maybe see a charm of the eye of Horus. I could possibly uncover the hidden mysteries of Egypt.

 

 

 

Vincent Van Gogh. I feel that he was one of the most admired artists. He illustrated many paintings, for example, Starry Night. I have illustrated it in my drawing. I try to incorporate all techniques he had used. My descriptive picture shows Vincent Van Gogh’s true art genius. He’s immortal.

 

 

 

My doodle is about old Hawaii. In old Hawaii they had a king, canoes, flower leis and legends. If i could travel in time, I’d visit that because I want to see how they lived without the technology we have now.

 

 

 

If I could travel in time, I’d visit dinosaurs time. I much prefer to see them alive. They are so powerful and diverse. To see how many kinds of them are.

 

 

 

If I could travel in time, I’d visit the old west in Texas. I would visit there because I want to see what it was like to ride horses and search for gold. I want to see the old towns and the Native American villages.

 

 

 

I’d visit when the dinosaurs were alive. I think they are really interesting and I’d like to learn more about the way they lived.

 

 

 

The Medieval Times, because I studied the Middle Ages in class and I liked it. I think it would be fun to be in the Medieval Times.

 

 

 

If I could travel in time, I’d visit Japan, the Land of the Cherry Blossoms. I would like to go to a Cherry Blossom celebration and learn about Japanese culture, customs and people.

 

 

 

If I could travel in time, I would visit the age of the dinosaurs. I would get to see great big mommy and daddy dinosaurs, baby dinosaurs, and maybe some eggs. I could even swim wtih a Cryptoclidus. It would be awesome to meet the greatest creatures of all time.

 

 

 

If I could travel in time, I’d visit Pirate Times. I would like to sail a pirate ship looking for treasure, have a colorful pet parrot and enjoy beautiful sunsets from deserted islands.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

My doodle expresses the theme because it represents the industrial revolution in America. I would travel to this time period, becuase i would want to know how some of the first machines were invented in America.

 

 

 

The future where everything is robotic, mechanical, digital, astrophysical and weird. People would go far out in space to find new planets. Robots would roam the earth and help us do things we dont want to do.

 

 

 

I would want to visit the time of the dinosaurs. When I was little, I used to love dinosaurs, and now I just want to express it in my art.

 

 

 

If I could go back in time I would go back to the time jazz was invented. I love jazz, so it would be cool to see Dizzy Gilllespie, Earl Hines, or Clifford Brown play live. I could learn alot from them.

 

 

 

Several generations ago, things were not mass produced as they are today. Instead, many items had to be handmade. If I could travel in time, I’d visit my Hungarian ancestors and receive needlecraft lessons from experts whose homes and livelihoods centered on this unique talent.

 

 

 

If I could travel in time, I’d visit the time of the Aztecs. My doodle expresses the theme, because I used a time period in the past, which is a part of time that I would like to visit.

 

 

 

When I think of Google, I think of a wormhole leading me to knowledge. If I could travel in time, I would visit a similar wormhole into the future to find out about ME.

 

 

 

My picture expresses the theme by depicting a scene of a 1970s jazz band. I chose this drawing because I enjoy the styles and sounds of this era. I would love to be able to travel in time to visit a city like New Orleans and watch a jazz band.

 

 

 

 

If I could travel in time I would visit the 70s so I show alot of objects or trends that were big in the 70s, especially peace.

 

 

 

If I could travel in time, I’d visit medieval times because I always wanted to visit a real live castle! I want to see jousters and towers and princesses and hear tales of three headed dragons! Set my time travel machine for fourteenth century England.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

If I could travel in time, I’d visit Retro City. A future city made of robots and humans. A wide variety of different mechanical arms are laid out on the page. Extra Robotic Designs are spread for the background and the Google is made from buildings to robotic designs.

 

 

 

If I could travel in time, I’d visit the future. My drawing expresses this by showing advanced technology and things from the future.

 

 

 

If I could travel in time I’d visit the 2100’s. I would visit the 2100’s because I would love to see all of the cool things that will be made in the future.

 

 

 

If I could travel in time, I’d visit the time of Abraham Lincoln. He was a great leader who I’d want to meet and even try to save from being killed. If he did such good for our country, who knows what he could’ve done to make life today better?

 

 

 

If I could travel in time, I’d visit 19th century Europe. It was a great era for famous painters, classy architecture, and the construction of new museums.

 

 

 

If I could travel in time, I’d visit an Ancient Puebloan civilization. I am interested in Native American history and admire their craftsmanship. I am intrigued by the mystery of their disappearance. Two nearby Ancestral Puebloan ruins, Mesa Verde and Chaco Canyon, play an important part in our Southwestern heritage.

 

 

 

I’d visit the time of jazz becuase I think this time was the start of Pop, Rock and all great music today!

 

 

 

If I could travel in time I’d visit the prehistoric animals and plants. It would be fun as an explorer watching the friendly herbivores and their babies. I’m definitely not visiting the carnivores because I don’t want to be their appetizer. I may even discover the Googlesaurus, LOL.

 

 

 

If I could travel in time, I would want to be on the edge of my seat cheering Secretariat on to winning the Triple Crown. By accompishing something that he loved, Secretariat taught us that if you believe in yourself and try hard, you can achieve any dream.

 

 

 

If I could travel in time, I would visit the construction of Stonehenge because I would witness the building of something monumental, and learn why they built it. I would witness the will to do something thought impossible, something great, the drive to go above and beyond the expected.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

The era of the U.S. Industrial Revolution because it was a time of prosperity and renewal for the nation’s economy and its population. The new found inventions and machinery replaced manual labor with more efficient and sped up production sparking the dawn of a new age.

 

 

 

I’d travel to the time of the treasure hunters. At the entrance of the cave, a boulder attempts to crush me. Inside the cave is an ancient calendar with hidden messages. I stumble through a tunnel to face my fears, a cobra before me. My staff guides me to treasure.

 

 

 

If I could travel in time, I’d travel back to the future. If there is life on other planets, I believe we’d visit the natives as well as invent different ships and rockets for quicker transportation. With what we have accomplished currently, I believe the “future” isnt so far away.

 

 

 

If I could travel in time, I’d visit the future. I wouldnt want to hang around in the past and mess up what has already been done to lead to the present. I would want to go to the future to see what will be created, like robots.

 

 

 

If I could travel in time, I’d visit the Italian Renaissance. I would meet masters of art, such as Da Vinci and Michelangelo. Enjoy the Tower of Pisa, before it leaned. I might see the Carnevale and enjoy the fireworks at night or visit Galileo and look at the stars.

 

 

 

I chose a present day woods simply because that’s where I enjoy being. It’s beautiful and untouched.

 

 

 

If I could travel in time, I’d visit Gutenberg’s printing press. The boundaries it removed allowed the spread of knowledge to places where it had previously been inaccessible. Like the internet does today, the printing press allowed average people to learn and think for themselves.

 

 

 

If I could travel to any “pointe” in time I’d visit the late 1800’s to the early 1900’s to see famous ballets of that time. I would see all the beautiful dancers en pointe and be a spectator of their magnificent jumps, turns, leaps, and graceful skills.

 

 

 

Time has allowed everything to become what it is for better and worse and nobody can change that but there is 86,400 seconds in a day each has possibilities tick tock.

 

 

 

If I could travel in time, I’d visit the 1851 World Expo in London. 1851 was a prosperous, golden time in England, and I’ve always dreamt of visiting the era just to experience the “posh-ness” and extravagance of it all. Along with that, 1851 was a productive time for inventors all across the globe. All sorts of new and quirky inventions arose during this time and you could find it all at the 1851 World Expo.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

If I could travel in time, I’d visit back to Victorian Age. My doodle shows some of the Victorian structures for which I’d admire, the bike is one of two ways I’d travel through England besides train, and Queen Victoria, whom I’d like to see.

 

 

 

This conveys a time of prehistoric substance before the familiar existence of modern day convenience and even human life. Why step backwards in time several decades while history trails back to several billion years? One small step may be a familiar topic, but large steps reveal an interesting array of significance.

 

 

 

If I could travel in time, I would visit the time period before manifest destiny when the Native Americans thrived. My doodle represents the time period when Native American culture was prevalent in the west in the 1800s.

 

 

 

If I could tavel in time, I’d visit the stone age, which is why I drew the Google logo as a cave painting that includes a deer, the sun, a mammoth, spear and a rattlesnake.

 

 

 

If I were given the chance to travel in time, I would visit Paris during the 1900 World’s Fair. This era was so full of progress and beauty, it would be incredible to experience the speactacle of so many cultures coming together in the celebration of innovation.

 

 

 

If I could travel in time, I’d visit the age of the Vikings. Though their tales of monsters may not have been entirely true, they were some of the greatest explorers in history. It would be a remarkable experience to share adventures and discover new lands with them.

 

 

 

I would visit the Palace of Versailles during the early stages of the French Revolution to see if Marie Antoinette was truly as blind to the troubles outside the palace as she is portrayed. Her alleged posh lifestyle truly intrigues me.

 

 

 

If I could travel in time, I’d visit the Renaissance. My doodle expresses this theme in that it is a print I made, of a printing room. Gutenberg’s press sparked widespread literacy in the medieval age. I would want to go to a time when books were a new innovation.

 

 

 

If there was an era that I could experience, it would be the ancient times of the earliest explorers. It would be a fascinating moment to be the first person to witness virgin lands that were once unknown.

 

 

 

If I could travel in time, I’d visit the future. Preferrably the far future. History can already be revisited through books and museums, but no one knows what the future holds. Not only am I curious how far humanity will advance in that amount of time, but medicine is sure to have advanced quite a bit in that time as well. This January my dad passed away from cancer. If I visited the future I’d be able to find the cure and bring it back so that I could spend more time with my dad.
