It’s frustrating when someone leaves a mess behind and then acts like you’re the problem for bringing it up.

One cocktail bar employee reached that point after she reminded her manager that he skipped a required closing checklist for two nights in a row.

When she came in the next morning, she found the bar in such bad shape that one of the owners considered closing temporarily to clean.

Knowing it would be a slower day, she advised against that and spent most of her shift cleaning and fixing everything.

However, when the closing manager arrived that day, he brushed off the mess and tried blaming her for it, so she finally snapped.

AITA for losing it at my manager?

I (21F) had it out with my manager (27M) because I feel as if he disrespected me on a massive level.

For context, we work in a cocktail bar. One of the most important things about working in a cocktail bar is to keep things clean and stickiness-free.

So, on a close, we have what’s called a bar file. We have to fill it in every night and check off what has been done so we know if things are being done properly/not done.

My manager was on a Saturday night close, and it was our first busy night in a while, as January has been slow.

The nightshift had been forgetting paperwork, so she sent them a friendly reminder.

I was on the close the next day, and I messaged our chat, “Make sure to fill out the bar file,” as it had not been filled out the last two days while my manager had been on. His response was, “Nah, I’m alright.”

I thought this was a joke, and I came in the next morning to open. To my shock, not only had the bar file not been filled out, the bar was a ******* mess. One of my bosses came in and was appalled and asked if I wanted to close for a while to clean up, as it wouldn’t look good at all if a customer came in.

I said it would be fine and that it was a busy night, so I’m just gonna get on with it, as Sundays usually aren’t busy anyway.

Then, the guy had the nerve to make a comment about what he had done.

Skip to the end of my shift. I have made the bar look presentable again, basically cleaned every mat, every surface, and mopped the entire bar, plus re-cleaned the toilets, as that hadn’t been done properly after somebody had thrown up on the Saturday.

I wasn’t going to bring up the close down, nor the bar file, as after cleaning all day, I didn’t have the energy to deal with him.

Then he hits me with the, “So, how was the close?” and instead of lying, I told him what our boss had said about closing briefly to clean, as it was quite appalling.

According to him, it wasn’t that bad.

To which he said, “It wasn’t that bad.”

Excuse me?

I decided then to say, “I’m not fussed about the close, but I asked you to do one thing, and you didn’t do it, and I feel disrespected,” to which he says, “Don’t talk to me about disrespect. You didn’t prep enough yesterday, and that’s why it was a mess.”

Apparently, he just doesn’t like paperwork.

Not true, by the way, as the cellar was full of pre-prepped fruit, so if anything, I had over-prepped, as I was told it was going to be busy. As if it had anything to do with the close and the bar file.

He also said, “I’m not going to fill out a ******** of paperwork while I’m knee-deep in sick.”

The bar file is a few boxes where you sign your initials in, BTW.
