An 18-Year-Old Fixed His Own Car Clutch to Save Money—Then a Bitter Neighbor Reported Him to Strata Until Massive Fines Forced Him to Sell

It’s frustrating when you do everything you can to solve a problem yourself and someone still finds a way to make it worse.
At 18, one driver couldn’t afford a shop repair when the clutch went out of his 2007 Honda Civic.
Rather than stress about it, he spent days teaching himself how to replace it in his apartment parking lot using his late father’s tools.
He cleaned up every night and tried to make sure he wasn’t leaving a mess behind.
But one neighbor snapped photos during a five-minute break and sent them in with complaints that led to fines and a threat that his car would be towed.

Spent days replacing my clutch with my late dad’s tools, only for a bitter neighbor to get me fined into selling the car. Need 100% legal petty ideas.
I just turned 18 and work on a budget. My 2007 Civic’s clutch died, and I couldn’t afford shop rates, so I spent days teaching myself how to replace it in my complex’s parking lot using my late dad’s hand tools.
I kept the spot as clean as possible, packed up every night, and proactively cleaned any drips using cat litter and specialized oil cleaner.
But the one time I stepped inside for 5 minutes to grab a drink of water, my neighbor came out and snapped photos of my tools sitting on the ground. He sent those photos straight to Strata, along with complaints exaggerating permanent messes and oil spills.
Unfortunately, the fines wiped out his savings.
Strata sided with him and hit me with so many fines that it completely wiped out what I saved doing the repair myself. They eventually threatened to tow the car, forcing me to sell it quickly just to clear the fines and avoid losing more money.
The whole neighborhood already dislikes this guy because he complains about everything, but he completely ruined me financially over a basic repair.
Since he loves reporting people to Strata, I cannot do anything that violates bylaws or puts me at risk of more fines. What are the best 100% legal, zero-risk ways to make his daily life slightly more annoying?
Wow! What a terrible person!
Let’s check if the readers over at Reddit have any suggestions for him.
He should do this one!

That would be perfect, but he said “legal.”

This is great if he cares about his paint.

This reader would’ve made them prove it.

He has every right to be angry about how this turned out.
After all, he did everything he could to avoid bothering anyone, but the nosy neighbor still found a reason to report him.
At this point, though, getting revenge would probably just give the guy another excuse to cause trouble.
Instead, he should document everything from now on and wait for the neighbor to cross the line. And then, it’s payback time.
