Hurricane Epsilon Produced a “Century Swell” at Nazaré and the Surf Clips are Insane

by twistedsifter

October 29, 2020 will go down in the history books as one of the craziest days ever at the legendary surf spot in Nazaré, Portugal. In recent years, Nazaré has become synonymous with big wave surfing, and it feels like every year it produces a “Biggest Wave Ever Surfed” headline.

This year was no different, with Hurricane Epsilon producing waves so big, it was dubbed a “century swell”. Lots of photos and videos of the epic day have been floating around but this is the best video I’ve come across that captures the magnitude of the waves being ridden and the sheer power of the ocean.

Many of the videos are slowed down for dramatic effect, and so you can appreciate the building waves—but seeing the riders surf in real time gives you a better appreciation of the pure insanity of what they are attempting.
