At this year’s 2012 International CES (Consumer Electronics Show), LG has showcased their largest French Door refrigerator ever (at 31 cubic ft) and it has a gimmicky feature that’s already netted them a ‘Best of Innovations’ award at the show. From the makers that introduced the world to laundry dryers with steam comes a fridge that will cool a room temperature beverage in under five minutes.

Dubbed the ‘blast chiller’, the crowd-pleasing feature takes room-temperature beverages, such as wine or soda beer cans and quickly cools them; it can chill a 12-ounce can in around five minutes as well as two soft drink cans or bottle of wine in eight minutes (to a temperature of 42 degrees Fahrenheit or 5 degrees Celsius). Quick chilling is enabled by a jet flow and swirling structure, which decreases the temperature and distributes the chilled air throughout the chiller compartment.
