In the Sifter’s fifth installment of the Awesome Animated Gif Series, we check in on some artists that are elevating the art form and taking it to classy, high-quality heights. First up are Jamie Beck and Kevin Burg who coined to the term Cinemagraphs to describe their specific style of animated gif. In their work, only certain elements of an image are animated/moving, drawing your attention to very specific parts of the image.

Jamie and Kevin have received international critical acclaim for their style, taking the fashion world by storm as they put their personal spin on the ‘cinematic photograph’. Be sure to check out Cinemagraphs.com for more examples of their work as well as Jamie’s highly popular Tumblr blog on the fashion and photography industry called From Me To You.

Also featured in this installment is the mighty Gus Mantel of If We Don’t, Remember Me. Since October 2010, Gus has been creating living movie stills, immortalizing famous scenes from some of cinema’s greatest films. Gus’s work is equally impressive and his IWDRM tumblr blog is the place to visit to see a ton more of his stuff.
