Picture of the Day: The Champ de Mars in Paris
THE CHAMP DE MARS IN PARIS
Photograph by DILIFF
The Champ de Mars (English: Field of Mars) is a large public greenspace in Paris, France, located in the seventh arrondissement, between the Eiffel Tower to the northwest and the École Militaire to the southeast. The park is named after the Campus Martius (“Mars Field”) in Rome, a tribute to the Roman God of War. The name also alludes to the fact that the lawns here were formerly used as drilling and marching grounds by the French military. [Source: Wikipedia]
The photograph is a composition of two panoramas of Champ de Mars from the Eiffel Tower. In the distance is Tour Montparnasse and the dome on the left is Les Invalides. This photo taken with a Canon 5D and 24-105mm f/4L IS.
