Picture of the Day: Skydiving Into Burning Man
SKYDIVING INTO BURNING MAN
In this incredible photograph we see a skydiver looking upward before his descent to the Burning Man Festival. Now in its 26th year, the annual festival takes place on the playa of Nevada’s Black Rock Desert. More than 50,000 participants attended this year’s gathering, where a temporary city forms (Black Rock City).
Unfortunately there was not much information on the photograph above. For those wondering if people actually do skydive into the festival or if this is just some photoshop trickery, check out this GoPro vid of a test jump into the festival. It was a training jump for a pyro night jump that never happened due to weather conditions (the video is of a different jump than the person above).
According to comments on Reddit, to be allowed to skydive into the festival you must have completed 100 successful jumps as the landing area is difficult and conditions can be quite ‘challenging’.
*Update – Cheers to commentor Mr. Jeff Liske for providing the name of a company that organizes jumps into Burning Man. Check out Burning Sky for skydiving FAQ’s, prices and more! http://burningsky.org/index.php
