Picture of the Day: Inside the Stuttgart City Library
Inside the Stuttgart City Library
After winning a design competition for the project in 1999, the new city library for Stuttgart, Germany, was unveiled on October 21, 2011. The building was designed by Yi Architects and takes the form of a cube with each side measuring 45 meters (147.6 ft).
The main floor (which is not shown in this picture) is a giant, hollow cube-shaped space that spans four storeys and is illuminated by a central roof light (see cross-section of building below). It’s an ambitious design that has stirred passionate opinions both for and against it. You can read more about the design on ArchDaily and pandomo.
