Homeowner Told His Neighbors To Stop Calling The Sheriff Over His Noisy Pond Pump, But They Said The Late-Night Noise Was Exactly What Police Were For

Some people seem to think calling the police is the answer to everything.

One homeowner says work on a retention pond has involved a large pump running throughout the day and into the night.

Then, suddenly, around 11:30 one evening, a neighbor complained online that the noise had been keeping them awake for several nights.

When someone suggested calling the sheriff, the homeowner pushed back and said it seemed like something that could have been handled during the day.

That opinion did not go over well, and several neighbors insisted the late-night noise was serious enough to justify the call.

AITA – recommending to not call the SO at midnight for a noise complaint.

I live in an HOA neighborhood.

There is work happening on one of the “retention” ponds. There is a large pump that they’ve been running pretty frequently to empty out that pond. It’s been sitting there for several weeks and running, so it’s not like it hasn’t been running all throughout the day.

The other night, someone posts on our neighborhood Facebook group at like 11:30 PM, complaining about how it’s keeping them up and it’s been keeping them up for several nights, and one of the recommendations was to call the sheriff immediately.

Unfortunately, they did not like his recommendation.

I responded and asked kindly, “Please don’t call the sheriff’s office for this minor inconvenience that you could have dealt with during the day. They have more important things to do. Besides, what are they gonna do that couldn’t be handled during the day?”

Of course, in my neighborhood, everybody jumped all over me and said that that’s exactly what the sheriff’s department is for and how it’s not a minor inconvenience to be woken up or not be able to sleep because of this noise.

Personally, I think these people are entitled ******** who just want to make their problems bigger than they really are.

AITA?

Wow! It’s kinda crazy how they all banded together to go against him.

Let’s see what the people over at Reddit would do in this situation.

This person agrees that’s not a reason for the sheriff.

Pump 3 Homeowner Told His Neighbors To Stop Calling The Sheriff Over His Noisy Pond Pump, But They Said The Late Night Noise Was Exactly What Police Were For

Calling the sheriff over a noisy pump just seems ridiculous.

If this has been going on for several nights, then they’ve had plenty of chances to tell the HOA during the day.

The point here is that even if they do call the cops, it’s not like they’ll be able to shut it off.

In this case, their best option is to wait until the morning and then complain to someone who can actually do something about it.
