She Accepted a Last-Minute “Extra” Ticket from a Longtime Friend—Then Received a $350 Venmo Request During the Encores

Friends should be clear about whether an extra ticket is a gift or something they expect payment for.
The following story is about a woman who agreed to attend a concert with a friend after his date backed out.
She thought they could all meet up and enjoy the concert together since she had already planned to go.
But when she confirmed the plans, she realized that her understanding was different from her friend’s expectations.

AITA for a friend offering an “extra ticket” to a concert and me not expecting to have to pay for it?
There’s a concert happening that I was planning on going to with someone.
I unexpectedly received a text from a friend saying that he’s going.
He has an extra ticket now because his date backed out, and he asked if I wanted to go.
I said sure, that would be great.
I was planning on going with someone anyway, so I thought it would be fun if we could all meet up and hang out together.
This woman was not expecting that she had to pay for the ticket.
Yesterday, I texted to confirm, and he sent me a screenshot of the ticket saying it was $50.
I don’t know why, but this really rubs me the wrong way. It’s not even about the money.
I was originally expecting to purchase two tickets anyway.
But in my opinion, when someone reaches out to you offering an extra ticket, they’re not asking for payment for it.
She told him that he was diabolical, but now she’s second-guessing herself.
I replied to his text pretty much saying that and calling him diabolical. Lol.
But now, I’m second-guessing myself a little bit, so AITA?
I would’ve been more than happy to buy him drinks all night as a thank you.
And that’s totally what I was expecting to do.
But again, I don’t know, something about this really just rubs me the wrong way.
I think it’s normal for OP to feel caught off guard, especially if she thought her friend was offering it to her for free.
If she was not sure, she could have asked beforehand.
But I think calling him “diabolical” may have been too much, when he was simply expecting to split the cost.
