She Happily Handed Off Thanksgiving After 4 Years of Hosting — Her Brother Accused Her of Only Wanting Credit

Hosting Thanksgiving can be fun, but after a few years, it can also start to wear you out.
One woman has handled the holiday at her apartment for the past four years and genuinely enjoyed having everyone over.
But when her brother bought a house and announced that he wanted to host this time, she was happy to let him take over.
Then her mom asked if she was sad about giving it up, and she admitted she was actually relieved to have a year off.
Her brother somehow took that as proof that she only hosted for the attention and called to confront her about it.
Read on to see what he said to her.
AITA for not stopping Thanksgiving when my brother told me “Well, I just do it for the credit?”
For the past four years, I (29F) have hosted Thanksgiving in my own apartment.
It began when my parents were doing some work that required their attention one year, and then it was just my thing. I don’t mind doing it.
I like the menu planning, and I like cooking, and basically, I like having them all at my place rather than going somewhere.
Suddenly, her brother wanted to host Thanksgiving at his new house.
My brother (32M) told the family group chat, in an attempt to host this year, that he just purchased a house and wants to start his own tradition with his wife.
Yes, very happy to come, very happy to bring something, no problem, I said. Sure, go for it.
When my mama asked me if I was sad about it, I said I wasn’t. I was kind of happy to be done with having to host, as it is a lot of work, and I wanted to take a year off.
Apparently, when I told him that his hosting wasn’t so important, my brother called me and told me that I just wanted to be the one that held the family together so I could get the credit, and now that somebody else is doing it, I’m playing it off like it’s no big deal.
By this point, she was a little upset.
I told him that I wasn’t saying that I didn’t care. I was saying I was relieved. He continued to push and said if I really wanted to do it, I would be sad, not relieved, and that is proof that it is not about the family. It is about being the one to do everything.
I was a little mad at that point and told him that 4 years of doing unpaid grocery shopping and cleaning the entire apartment and cooking for 12 people is not all because of praise, and he should not be so concerned with what I’m doing it for and more excited about hosting his own thing.
He hung up on me.
Now, her family seems to be taking sides.
Now my mom says that I need to be more sensitive and this is a huge milestone for him and his wife, and I “know how he gets.”
I received a message from my aunt separately that I sounded a little defensive on the call. Since then, my brother has not spoken with me.
I don’t think I did anything wrong by being honest about being relieved, but a few people are acting like I made his moment about myself.
AITA?
Yikes. It’s easy to see where everyone is coming from, but her brother is being pretty petty.
Let’s take a look at how the people over at Reddit feel about this whole thing.
This person would call him out in front of the family.

That’s a really good observation.

He does seem to have a problem.

It does seem like the mom set her up.

Her brother seems determined to turn nothing into something.
When he asked to host, she didn’t make a big deal out of it at all.
In fact, all she said was that she was relieved to be free of it for a year.
At this point, it almost seems like he’s trying to find a reason to be offended when there really isn’t one.
