Imagine inheriting a house from a family member who passed away. If you temporarily moved into the house to do some renovations before selling it, would you care if the neighbors didn’t exactly seem friendly?
You know how when someone breaks up with someone they often say the line “it’s not you, it’s me”? Well, the woman who wrote this story keeps wondering why the neighbors seem to gossip about her and spy on her. She’s not sure if it’s them or her.
She does sound like she might come off as creepy, but the neighbors are still acting pretty unneighborly.

Is this just what people do in neighborhoods??
I inherited my great aunts house.
She has lived in the home since it was built in 1948.
Since I moved in 4 months ago, every neighbor watches me out their window while I do yard work or wash my car.
When they pass eachother walking they stop to chat and point at my house and stare at it while they all talk.
This seems odd.
If I do anything in the backyard my 2 side neighbors go into their garages and watch me through their windows.
One time I made eye contact with one and he backed away from the glass slowly like I wouldn’t be able to see him.
I have introduced myself to every neighbor near me when i first moved in. I told them about my aunts passing and explained im fixing up the house for a few years and then I’ll be selling it.
She’s wondering if she looks creepy.
Ive lived on 9.5 acres in the woods for 40 years. Is this normal behavior for a smaller city neighborhood?
OR is it because im a Pagan and I have a witch broom and bells hanging on the back door (visible from the sidewalk). I painted the front door purple and i 5 black cats that lay in the yard daily. I also have 7 black chickens and 2 black ducks.
Do I come across as a creepy witch?
Maybe she comes off as creepy. It’s still rude for the neighbors to stare at her and talk about her.
Let’s see how Reddit responded.
This person doesn’t think it’s the broom.
This person suggests playing into it.

This person was in a similar situation and decided to give the neighbors something to talk about.
Oh, it’s definitely her…and her decor and her pets. The neighbors are probably bored with nothing to talk about. Now, she comes along and stirs things up just by being herself.
She shouldn’t let it bother her, but she could definitely have some fun with it if she wants to.
