When a teacher offers you the opportunity to take a golden test, which allows you the ability to get an overall improved grade, it makes sense to take it.

The two friends in this story, however, saw it as an opportunity to play a prank on the teacher.

Their teacher offered them this opportunity, but they thought it would be funny to complete the test with a gold colored pen as a play on words. Fortunately, the teacher saw the humor in the situation and awarded them the extra points anyway.

A teacher tells me and my friend to write the test golden (meaning flawless), and gets a golden test.

This happened to me and my friend, about 7 years ago, in the last year of engineering middle school. (We are from Europe, non-English native speakers).

This is a great opportunity.

We weren’t the hardest working students, making jokes all the time, but we always got our work done in a relatively good shape, and in time.

As the year gets on an end, the teacher approaches us and tells us that if we take the test he had for us golden (meaning we write in the correct answers and get a high mark), he’s going to improve our final mark to one mark higher.

Obviously, this is not what the professor meant.

We, of course, accepted, having nothing to lose.

That very day I went to the store and bought two golden markers, with which we wrote the test.

It is kind of funny.

We did our best, and it would be probably enough to get the higher marks, but, it was, as the teacher wanted, written (in) golden (colour).

As we carried the filled-out tests to him, he looked at them and frowned.

Hopefully, the teacher will see the humor in it.

Teacher: “What’s this?”

Me: “You wanted it golden…”

Great! The teacher loved it. Well, tolerated it.

Teacher: sigh
…
Teacher: “Begone!”

This is exactly how teachers should be.

We both got the better marks. 🙂

We always have a good laugh about this, and the teacher accepted his “defeat” valiantly and went on, as usual, with no hard feelings or anything.

That’s a funny story that they, and the teacher, will likely remember for life.
