Ahhhh, young love.

I remember it well!

Emotions run high, every little decision seems like a life-altering experience, and, to be honest, there’s a lot of drama involved.

Of course, when you look back on it when you’re older, those relationships might even make you chuckle a bit.

But when you’re in the thick of it, it’s intense!

In today’s story, a young person explained why they’re thinking about ending things with their partner because they’re not too keen on having a long-distance relationship.

Read on and see what you think.

AITA for telling my partner I can’t do one year long distance and I’m considering ending things?

“I met my partner in late May at a jazz club.

We spent the entire of month of June together. They then went back to their hometown for summer. They had asked me to be exclusive by that time (which I hesitantly agreed to, since I’m not a big fan of long distance) knowing it would only be for 2 months.

Now they’re singing a different tune…

They are a day away from coming back to our city when they start talking to me about “I’ve never wanted to study abroad before, but I feel like it would be a missed opportunity” while searching for schools abroad.

I replied that they can absolutely do it but I wouldn’t be able to stay in the relationship, to which they just went silent and dropped the topic.

Now there’s a HUGE elephant in the room.

I know this is going to be a conversation that we NEED to have. I simply don’t really believe in long distance, as quality time is a major factor for me, especially for a whole year studying in another school with completely new people. It feels like it’s too easy for them to cross a boundary at some point.

I’m seriously considering ending things just to simply not waste each others’ time if they think that going to study abroad is an opportunity they can’t absolutely miss.

Especially considering we’ve spent 3/4 months of knowing each other long distance (which SEVERELY degraded my mental health to begin with) .

I just don’t feel like it’s productive to invest in an relationship that’s essentially a ticking bomb.”

Well, nobody ever said young love was gonna be easy…

I personally think they need to nip it in the bud and move on.

Maybe they’ll reconnect in the future!

It sounds like they need to get out of this relationship NOW.
