Stay-At-Home Mom Is Tired Of Cleaning Up After Her In-Laws, But Their Clogged Toilet Is Finally Her Last Straw

When you live with other adults, you’d think that you could safely assume that they would at the very least clean up after themselves. But the truth is that in many cases, this is far from the truth, and assuming that only leaves you feeling resentful. Because plenty of folk seems to have zero standards when it comes to caring for themselves and the environment that they (and even their family) are living in, to the point that things get so much worse before they can ever get better.
The woman in this story is a stay at home mom, and she is doing her best to raise her children in a house full of incredibly lazy and unhygienic adults. And while this has always been a problem, it has recently got even worse, to the point that she’s having to spend substantial parts of every day dealing with other people’s excrement. And the worst part is that there is seemingly no regard for her health and wellbeing, nor any end to this in sight.
Read on to find out why.
AITA for refusing to clear the clogged toilet AGAIN?
So for context I (26, female) am a stay at home mom and living with my in-laws.
There is one toilet in the house. The toilet has been not flushing correctly for months, as a remedy I pour a bucket of water down and it clears.
For the last week now, the toilet has been clogged every evening by SOMEONE else (two suspects) who just doesn’t have the decency to clear the toilet.
Let’s see how she’s responding to this.
Me (being a ******* or maybe too grossed out to let the **** brew) have cleared it every morning with a plunger, even one of those toilet snakes, and scooped the evidence out with a gloved hand.
I have managed to keep it clear the whole day until everyone else gets home then BOOM, back to **** soup.
It’s really not that difficult to clear the toilet unless there’s an unnecessary amount of toilet paper in it, so I don’t understand why no one else is doing it, especially if it’s their own creation.
I have told my partner I flat out refuse to clear it again in the morning after everyone else has made a mountain of toilet paper, he says it’s only ****, but is this what life has come to?
So she’s about ready to call in a professional.
Also as I am a stay at home mom, I don’t have any of my own income, but I did manage to pay a plumber last week to fix the shower because in my eyes that’s a NECESSITY.
While everyone else was just free-stinking for the week I washed using a bucket of water or took a trip to a family member’s house for a good scrub.
Now I’m starting to put money aside in the hopes of getting the toilet or drain fixed BUT am I wrong for refusing to clear the ****?
AITA?
Sure she’s a stay at home mom. But that doesn’t mean that she’s a slave who should be expected to deal with whatever the house needs on any given day.
She has her children to care for, and currently they’re being made to live in unsanitary conditions, because the other adults in the household simply do not care.
It’s unsustainable and it’s disgusting – things clearly need to change here.
Let’s see what folks on Reddit had to say about this.

This person agreed that she needed to make some changes for her kids’ safety.

And others thought this meant putting her foot down once and for all.

While this Redditor questioned why her partner wasn’t cleaning it.

As a stay at home mom, this woman is clearly doing her best to care for her kids. And sometimes caring for your children means making some important decisions with their best interests at heart. Clearly, at this moment in time, living with her in-laws as a stay at home mom isn’t working, and in fact it is compromising her children’s safety and welfare. Because a constantly blocked toilet is a health hazard, and it’s not sustainable for her to have to keep dealing with it day after day.
If the other adults in the house aren’t prepared to clean up after themselves, or pay for a plumber to come and fix the problem, then they need to be rethinking their living situation. The reality is, she might need to start working so that they can pay for someplace else to live – a house with working plumbing and an absence of dirty and uncaring adults. Or, if her partner is the main culprit here, she might need to rethink him too. Because what seems like a minor inconvenience to him is actually a huge red flag, and her kids can’t grow up in these conditions.
