Her Cousin’s Family Made Her a Steak Dinner—But She Had No Idea What Was Coming Next

Everyone has an opinion on what the “perfect” way to eat a steak is. And while some can agree to disagree, others take the “my way or the highway” approach to beef far more seriously than others.
What would you do if you were served a less than ideal cut of meat? So much so that it made you sick? One woman recently shared an insane story about this with Reddit. Here’s what happened.
AITA for not eating expensive steak at a dinner?
A couple of months back, me and my family were at a dinner party at a cousin’s home.
The party was going fine, kids were running around, and we were having fun chatting.
Finally, it was dinner time.
When everyone in question can finally relax.
One of my cousin’s husbands is big into meat.
He has a ranch and owns multiple cows with names like Sirloin, Ribeye etc.
Anyway, he got some A3 Wagyu from a friend and started serving it to everyone.
They say needs a hobby.
He didn’t ask what temp everyone wanted, when someone mentioned “how are you doing it?”, he said “I’m only gonna do it medium rare, I’m doing this any other way”.
I understand it is quite expensive meat, so I decided to be respectful and partake.
I used to be huge into steak, eating blue steak and whatever.
Peoples’ tastes are apt to change.
After we had my second kid though, things changed.
It was a really bad delivery and I still remember holding my baby and being overwhelmed by what I remember as being a lot of gore.
It really changed me and I’ve changed my entire dietary profile after.
And understandably so!
I especially have a weird affliction to blood.
When I started eating, I realized that the meat was on the rarer side, and when I had my had first bite of red tender steak, I almost gagged.
It was one of the most difficult bites I have ever had.
That’s brutal even for some folks who do like steak.
The “meat juice” just felt like I was chewing my own flesh.
Anything the myoglobin touched really grossed me out.
Safe to say, it was a very difficult dinner for me, and I mostly ate the sides.
She gave it her best try it seems.
I noticed that I was getting dirty looks for leaving so much meat on my plate.
No one asked me anything, so I didn’t bring it up; I would have had no issue with sharing it.
I was also busy helping my youngest finish her meal.
As attentive parent should!
A week later, my cousin jokingly mentioned that they weren’t going to invite me for dinners after that.
Apparently her husband was angry at me not eating my beef.
They thought I was being snooty.
That’s a fairly bold assumption.
I told her the truth, but she felt I was making it up because of my past history with meat.
My mom mentioned that it was very rude of me as well to do that.
Then I received comments from my sister and other cousins on how gross it was that I now eat only well done meats.
This family seems like they don’t really get out much…

It reached a head when a comment was made about me preferring to eat leather at my kid’s birthday party last week which really angered me.
I am actually getting therapy for my reaction to my delivery, though the food issue is the least of it.
They all know that and don’t seem to care.
Safe to say they’re all pretty stuck in their ways.
AITA for refusing to eat rare Wagyu meat?
Should I have just sucked it up or done something else?
Should I start force feeding myself medium rare meat now to fit in?!
