He Paid for the Entire Shared Fence—Then His Neighbors Started Trespassing and Treating Him Poorly

There’s something to be said for trying to keep the peace, but everyone’s patience has its limits.

One homeowner had already spent $4,000 out of his own pocket building a backyard fence, even including a new gate for his neighbors, all in an effort to avoid conflict over years of boundary encroachment near a shared water pipe.

Despite years of trying to simply ignore the ongoing friction, things escalated when his neighbors trespassed into his yard and verbally confronted him.

Even after posting no trespassing signs and filing a police report, the daily intrusions didn’t stop, constant sawing along the property line, rooftop work that gave clear views into his backyard, and loud driveway gatherings that made his own home feel anything but private.

You’ll want to keep reading for the full drama.

Seeing toxic neighbors every day ticks me off

My neighbors are aggressive, nosy, and extremely selfish. They have a history of planting and placing random stuff encroaching on the property line, directly on top of our city underground water pipe.

For the most part, the homeowners have been forced to absorb the consequences for the sake of keeping the peace.

Back then, we covered the full $4000 cost ourselves to build a backyard fence (even giving them a nice new gate) to sort it out without taking legal action.

For three years, we tried our best to ignore them.

Lately the neighbors’ antics have gotten harder to ignore.

Recently, though, things escalated.

They trespassed into my yard again and verbally insulted me. It ticked me off so much, especially after all our efforts and money to keep the peace and be good neighbors.

So the homeowner decided it was time to take action.

I put on “No Trespassing” signs and filed a police report so they no longer came into our yard. But every single day they pull some irritating crap.

The neighbors have lots of other annoying habits too.

They are constantly sawing things on our shared border, frequently climbing onto their roof to do random work, which means they can see our backyard.

And they are always hanging out in their driveway talking loudly with people in random cars. It’s so annoying, constantly invading our peace and privacy, and makes me feel unsafe at home.

Now the homeowner is wondering how to claw back some peace.

I’ve considered planting privacy trees, but mature ones are way out of my budget, and small shrubs will take at least 3 years to grow tall enough to block their view.

What can I do right now to protect my privacy and peace of mind without spending a fortune?

This is a tough spot to be in.

Redditors are sure to have some ideas.

This user validates the homeowner’s pain.

It won’t be cheap, but investing in some peace and quiet is worth it.

Neighbors like these are the absolute worst.

The fact that he covered the entire fence cost himself, went out of his way to keep things friendly, and still ended up dealing with trespassing and getting screamed at is kind of insane.

You’d think after a police report things would calm down a little, but nope.

At some point, this becomes a deep-rooted issue that no amount of water features or taller fences would solve.

Some neighbors are determined to be a headache no matter what.
