Living with roommates means being considerate of their time… and bathroom needs.

The following story involves a woman whose roommate would spend more than 4 hours in the bathroom styling her hair.

She politely asked her roommate if she could do this during days that she was out of the apartment.

But instead of granting her request, the roommate blamed her for not understanding her hair type and the time it takes to style it.

Four hours? Seriously? Wow! Let’s take a closer look…

AITA for asking my roommate to do her hair on a day I’m not around bc she takes 6 hours?

AITA for asking my roommate to not take forever in the bathroom doing her hair?

My roommate basically got super mad and said I was doing too much when I respectfully said:

“Hey girl, is it cool that next time you do your hair, you pick a day when I’m not around?

Or discuss with me first because you take too long, and the bathroom’s occupied all day.

I need to do things, too.”

This woman’s roommate would use the bathroom for 6 hours straight.

She takes four hours straight doing her hair alone, and then 2 hours cleaning up.

Mind you, I’m out like every other day.

But she always picks a day when I’m home to do it.

Her roommate even gaslit her for being a white girl.

Like, and then she brought race and hair type into the convo.

She said how I wouldn’t understand because I’m a white girl. Like, what?

Well, if I were to style my hair anyways, I wouldn’t lock the door and blast loud music for six hours.

Knowing my roommate’s there too and needs to use the toilet.

Whoa! Six hours in a shared bathroom is a seriously long time!

OP’s roommate should understand that it is a shared space, and other people need to use it.

OP was not even asking her roommate to stop doing her hair, but simply wanted some consideration for their shared space.

Finally, short and straightforward.

Sharing a bathroom means being mindful of how long others have to wait.
