A middle schooler who spends three unplanned hours holding a household together and then calmly says she’d like some help next time is not a disrespectful brat, she’s the most mature person in the room.
Saying no to last-minute childcare when you have nothing left in the tank isn’t a character flaw.
If the family really is relying on her to do all the babysitting, that isn’t fair at all.
Now all that’s left to do is learn from her mistakes and vow to do better next time.
This teen already has more than enough on her plate.
It was good while it lasted, but now she needs to just say “no.”

She’s not a built-in babysitter, she’s a teenager with hopes and dreams she needs to start working towards.
