“It’s Been Mine for Years!”: Roommate Demands Her Prime Parking Spot—And Gets Shut Down Cold

I’d say that most of us like to go out of our way to help out the people around us.

This can include our family members, complete strangers, and especially the people we live with.

But some requests for assistance go above and beyond the normal scope of help.

The woman who wrote this story is a bit annoyed because one of her roommates wants her to give up the parking spot she’s had for years…

And she ain’t having it!

Let’s take a look at what’s going on here.

“I live in a house with 4 roommates.

3 of us have lived there for 3.5 years and one moved in this past May. We all pay the same in rent, but two rooms (including mine) are attic rooms with low ceilings and one has no closet.

This makes sense…

There is room for 3 cars in our driveway, so the three “bad” rooms have always had the parking spots.

There is a lot across the street that we can park in overnight but cars have to be moved out on to the street at 6 am. There is a winter street parking ban from 1 am-6 am. The newest roommate moved in knowing she would have the best room but would have to park in the lot, and she is okay with this.

For the last 3 winters, I have taken full responsibility for shoveling out the driveway in the winter, which usually takes a couple of hours per snowfall.

I agree!

I feel this guarantees me a spot in the driveway, though that is up for debate.

One of my roommates got a new car and is a terrible driver, so wants to go down to 2 cars in the driveway and 2 in the lot, with us switching off who’s in the lot.

While her car is a little bigger than her last one, we can still fit 3 cars in the driveway.

She’s not about to play along with this!

I feel that if the three of them want to switch off, that’s fine, but my schedule is not conducive to waking up at 6 am (I work 1-9 pm while they all work more standard hours).

And on top of this I have been the only one shoveling all these years (a trend that is likely to continue, as all three of them are very out of shape).
