Will be put on PIP and need advice on strategy forward

I work in corporate and I’ve been informed that I am getting closer to PIP.

I asked if I will be put on PIP, and my manager said first they will document to see if I improve, and if not then I will be formally put on PIP.

My manager will be sending me a document with all the feedback written.

That has to be a brutal feeling.

I’ve never been in this situation, and while I do believe I have improvement opportunities I don’t agree with this.

In fact, my partners have given quite positive feedback and even advocated for my promotion but my manager said a promotion won’t help me develop my skills, so I was told I am underperforming.

This was a shock to me and I’m embarrassed to admit I cried.

Honestly? An understandable reaction.

I’ve noticed the feedback I get from my dept management vs my partners do not align majority of the time where it may be an escalation, a misunderstanding, etc it feels confusing.

This morning I started off with a meeting presentation where my partners told me I was “perfect” and by end of day I had a serious talk with my manager who told me I a progressing towards PIP.

I had a change in manager as well which really negatively impacted my career trajectory, where I was doing quite well but things have been confusing since the change.

Some employees just don’t get along no matter how hard they try.

I work long hours, have taken on additional work and nothing is enough.

I’ve been feeling like this since I got my new manager.

I realize I have never received any positive feedback from my manager or dept, it is always critical to the point where I feel like I’m walking on eggshells.

That kind of toxic environment can take all the love out of any job. Let’s see if Reddit could offer any words of wisdom.
