Her Neighbor Keeps Sending Her Weird Late-Night Texts—But She Doesn’t Want to Cause Problems With a Neighbor

When you live in an apartment complex, it is often good to swap numbers with your neighbors in case they need to reach out to you for anything.
What would you do if your downstairs neighbor kept texting you very late at night with weird messages?
That is what is happening to the young lady in this story, and while she doesn’t like it, she also doesn’t want to be a bad neighbor, so she doesn’t know what to do.
Personally, I think she should tell the guy to only text her for building-related problems, not just for fun. If he won’t stop, she can report him to the landlord. Read through the full story below and see what you think.
AITA? Neighbor messages me at odd hours
I (20f) have been living on my own for almost 3 years now, and I’ve heard weird stuff from the walls but never had trouble.
She seems like a considerate neighbor.
I try to be mindfull of my volume, and so far its been peaceful. But a few months ago I started getting weird knocking on my door around 9/10 pm. I never answered, scared of what was on the other side, and I thought I was gaming too loud so I got off my ps4 and went to lay in bed in petrified quiet.
I know I’m a night owl, I dont wanna bother anyone. A few days after the knocking stopped, I got a letter from my neighbor.
Oh, this is no big deal then.
It essentially said hed been trying to talk to me (hence the knocking?) Because my AC unit was loud at night and he couldnt sleep. He left his phone number, too.
I sent him a message on a fake number and we figured out, by process of elimination, that it was actually my bathroom fan that was bothering him.
It is good that they could solve the problem, but why is he still texting?
He left me mangos to be nice I suppose. I figured I was too loud and hurried to shut the fan off when he asked.
Now, he keeps messaging me. Heres a few from him, dated and timed
This is a little creepy.
2/6/22, 4am GUY- Sorry, are you talking now?
2/6/22 9am GUY- So sorry for the message, somebody is so excited at 3am.
(I woke up to these)
He is still hearing fans.
2/16/22 12am
GUY- Hi dear neighbor, I hope you are okay now, I am worried about your room conditions, I think there are at least three fans roaring under apart 1, do you need help? I can call the service for you tomorrow morning
ME- I am doing fine. What do you mean fans? (Mine was off)
GUY- That’s great you are fine, I am sure there is another source of fan’s noise come from intermittently. Sorry to bother you
What is he hearing?
2/20/22 12 am
GUY- Dear neighbor, please stop your fans, thanks, have a great sleep!
ME- I don’t have them on.
This is beyond excessive.
Then all of these messages, over the course of about a week and a half:
//11 pm Hi, almost 11 PM Any trouble with you? I can help //9 pm You are so excited, I think some happy news to you today! Hi, it’s 10 o’clock now, if you don’t want share your good news, please keep quiet, thanks, have a great night //11pm Hi eleven o’clock //
8pm Hi good evening dear neighbor, I am studying now, could you please do me a favor to lower Your voice? Hi Can I come to your room to talk with you face to face? (He proceeded to knock at my door for five minutes) //7:55 pm I think you have so many funny things today that makes you laugh so loudly!
She is doing nothing wrong.
That’s most of our convos up to now, and I’ve since recieved strawberries and avocados.
I tell my friends (who I’m playing with when I get these messages) and of course they say I’m NTA, that I’m not loud, etc, but I worry because they are my friends and none of them live in the apartment.
AITA?

She has done nothing wrong, and her neighbor is definitely being weird. She might want to ask him to stop, and if he doesn’t, report him to the landlord.
Let’s see what the people in the comments have to say about it.
Here is someone who thinks that she needs to call the police.

This commenter thinks the neighbor is being passive-aggressive.

She wasn’t being that loud. But she does need to tell him to stop texting.

Here is someone who says to report him to the landlord at the very least.

He does seem to be crossing the line.

He is acting weird, but she needs to tell him to stop if that is what she wants. It doesn’t seem like she has made it clear that she doesn’t like getting texted like this.
