His Brother Isn’t Taking Care of His Kids Like He Should—So He Finally Told Him How He Feels

Do you ever see those people on social media who act like they’re the absolute best parents in the whole wide world…but you know it’s not the truth?
There’s a lot of that going around on social media these days, which makes perfect sense…because a lot of folks use Facebook and Instagram to portray themselves in the best light possible, even when that’s not always the case.
The man who wrote today’s story knows that his brother is a bum, even though he likes to act like he’s the Father of the Year.

AITA for continuing to call my little brother a deadbeat dad?
“My brother is 36. He has a 13 year old with his ex, a 7 year old with current wife, and lives with her and her 3 small kids from a previous marriage.
This guy has been busy!
He also has a 9 year old with another ex that he has ABSOLUTELY nothing to do with. He uses the excuse “his mom doesn’t let me see him”.
He wants us to praise him for being a great dad because he is a decent dad and shows up for the kids that live in his house.
This guy isn’t buying it…
I’m keeping my figurative foot on his neck still because he hardly tries with his first daughter (13 y/o) and has effectively abandoned his 9 year old who has special needs.
I will never be able to hear the excuse that you had to abandon your kid because the other parent wouldn’t cooperate. We have a system in place for things like that.
Other family members argue that the child custody system is unfair or whatever but guess what else is unfair? Growing up with no dad, watching your dad be great to someone else’s kids, watching your dad forget about you and start a new family… etc.
He hasn’t spoken words to this child in at least 5 years if not longer. But will tell people that’s his son…… bye.
This is pretty sad…
He will show up to every single event no matter what for the kids that live in his house, but can’t show up for his 13 year old who needs him. And then expects her to be close with him and his wife and feel like a part of their family.
She literally sleeps on the couch at their house and doesn’t even have a room. Her mom tells me she really struggles with not having a dad around, but on the flip side our family wants to praise him for being such an outstanding father to her and everyone else!
No way!
I can’t.
He never showed up as a father to any of his kids before he got married to this woman, which is great, kinda, because he thinks he’s doing great and I think he’s still doing the bare minimum. But since the wife is happy, that’s all he cares about, in my opinion.

I just have no desire to give him flowers for any progress when there’s still two kids still suffering. While he gets to feel like the man.
