It’s hard not to questioning yourself when someone tells you that nobody likes you.

One nursing home employee is dealing with that after a nurse she already struggles with told her that everyone at work hates her.

In fact, she says she tries to be kind and helpful, but she still gets excluded and barely hears from anyone unless they need something.

AITAH Nurse said everyone hates me

I (35F) work in an understaffed nursing home.

Yesterday, when I clocked in, a nurse who, frankly, nobody likes and who makes my anxiety skyrocket blocked the only exit and belittled me.

She said I’m just like her, and everyone hates me like they hate her. That I’m terrible with the residents and other coworkers.

Deep down she thinks the woman may be right.

I’m so hurt and conflicted.

I do so much for others, like bringing extra food for coworkers, baking treats for residents, and trying to make every shift more fun for us all.

But I think she’s right about nobody liking me. None of my coworkers really talk to me unless it’s to get me to do or give them something. I’m excluded from all after-work get-togethers or parties. Nobody answers my texts about trading shifts in the work group chat.

I feel so invisible. I’m surrounded by people yet completely alone.

The whole thing is very confusing for her.

One coworker jokes too much that I’m rude, but I’m not. Another compliments me to the point that it feels like a joke at my expense.

Everything seems so off and backwards, and I don’t understand why. I’m so tired of being talked over and ignored when I try joining in conversations happening right in front of me.

I don’t understand. All I can think of is the phrase, “If everyone you meet is a jerk, maybe it’s you.”

But am I really the same kind of awful as a nurse who screams at us, laughs about driving all the new hires away, and constantly takes her anger out on us? I don’t do any of that, but I’m just as iced out as her. AITA?

It sounds like this woman already felt left out, so hearing that probably hit every insecurity she had at once.

Still, being quiet or not fitting in with a group doesn’t make her anything like someone who screams at coworkers and drives people away.

In this case, the best thing she can do is stop trying so hard to win these people over and start paying attention to who actually treats her well.
