A flat tire of a car

Lending someone your car can be a serious matter when accidents are involved.

In this story, a woman refused to lend her car to her mom after several recent driving mishaps.

Her mom had gotten three flat tires and also had a badly misaligned steering wheel from hitting curbs.

Even though her mom promised to pay for the damages, she started feeling uncomfortable lending it back to her.

AITA for not wanting to lend my mom my car after she’s popped three tires in three months?

My mom has gotten three flat tires in the last three months:

Beginning of June, middle of July, and end of August.

All from hitting curbs and such while driving.

Separately, her steering wheel is now very off-center.

So her alignment is pretty badly out of whack, too.

This woman owns the car, and her mom promised to pay for the damages.

I am 23 years old, and this is the first car I have ever paid for by myself.

I paid $35k for my car, I’m the primary driver on the insurance, and I pay the premium.

I also pay for any damages and repairs.

Her name is on the title only because it got me a cheaper insurance rate.

Please note she’s also hit my car once while it was parked in my own driveway.

She offered to pay for the damage, so she doesn’t deny it happened, but it still happened.

Her mom wanted to borrow her car again, and she plans to refuse.

Now, she wants to borrow my car for a week to get to work and run errands.

I am expected to just hand it over.

My dad thinks I should and says if my car broke down, she’d let me use hers.

Given her track record, I don’t feel comfortable lending her my car.

AITA for saying no?

Yikes! Three flat tires in three months is no joke!

Plus, a previous accident involving her car would understandably make her hesitant to lend it out.

Her dad may see it as a family favor, but she is the one responsible for the car and its expenses.

Finally, this one gives a suggestion.

Three flat tires can completely damage someone’s trust when another person borrows their car.
