Woman Brought Her Boyfriend Home To Meet Her Family, But A Fight Over Sleeping Arrangements Caused Drama

It can be hard for dads to see their daughters grow up. They might become overprotective, or as the young woman in this story describes it, “controlling.”
She no longer lives with her parents, but she’s planning to visit them, and she’s bringing her boyfriend with her. The problem is that her dad doesn’t want them to sleep in the same room, but she basically plans to ignore him.
Should she listen to her dad and sleep in a different room than her boyfriend while they’re visiting, or should she ignore him?
Let’s read the whole story to decide.
AITAH for not respecting my dad’s wishes
Im 22 F my dad is 42 M.
Next weekend I plan on visiting my parents house and introducing them to my bf who is 27 M.
My dad and I have had a rocky relationship all my life. I’m the first born daughters and he’s always be over the top controlling.
Here are some examples of things her dad did that she found controlling.
Some examples are I used to have to ask permission to take a shower otherwise he’d get upset I had just disappeared.
He controlled what apps I could download on my phone until I was 18 and figured out I could have my own App Store and keep his Apple ID.
And I couldn’t wear a bikini until I was 18 and even then he told me I still couldn’t but I was adult by then and kind of just did it anyways.
Her dad sounds pretty awful.
My dad and I had a time period too where I cut off a relationship with him for 2 years.
I still called him papa but I didn’t invite him to my life and didn’t tell him about my life.
He basically got put into acquaintance level. With me telling him he could earn back a relationship with me if he gave up drinking, wasn’t allowed to yell at me anymore and wasn’t allowed to put his hands on me or my sisters to purposely cause pain.
I can see why CPS was invovled.
He never beat me growing up, mainly bc he had CPS called on him when I was like 2 years old for giving me hand print bruises on my butt.
But he liked to push pressure points and doing body slams into me when he was upset.
Not anymore ofc bc he has now currently earned our relationship again. Which I told him he had earned back since last July.
My father and I used to get into really big fights when I was younger too that would last for hours and sometimes lead him to threatening that he was going to lose control and kill me.
Here’s the latest reason her dad is upset.
Now he’s throwing a fit that I’m planning on sleeping in the same room with my bf when I go to visit next weekend.
We would be in guest house in my old room.
My mom owns the house not my dad and she doesn’t really have a problem with me sleeping with my bf other than it will make my dad mad.
When I had cut off my relationship with my dad for 2 years I had had a different bf at the time and slept in the same room and ignored his hissyfit.
She doesn’t really care what her parents think.
This introduction of my bf to my family is more about my sisters meeting my new bf not really about my parents meeting him so I don’t really care what they think.
My mom think I’m being mean and spiteful to my dad for not caring how this impacts my dad’s manhood.
I do kind of fear there might be a fight when I go over with my dad. But this is not my first time fighting with my dad so on that part idc.
I think he’s throwing a tantrum but my mom says I need to b nicer to my dad.
She’s not sure what to do.
Should I just give in and sleep in another room?
My bf said he would be okay with me sleeping in another room but it does make him uncomfortable to be in a different room than me in a strange house and would prefer me to b in the same bed as him.
I just want to make sure I’m not just letting anger control my decisions.

Also if I got a hotel room my dad would still b upset and a hotel would be 30 mins away since they live in the middle of nowhere and we are driving two hours to visit them.
I probably wouldn’t visit them at all. Maybe her sisters could come visit her instead. If I were her, I wouldn’t want to put my boyfriend in a potentially dangerous situation. She knows her dad will be upset, and her dad also sounds potentially dangerous.
Let’s see what Reddit suggests.
I was thinking the same thing.

Here’s a vote for sleeping in separate rooms.

Another person suggests staying at a hotel.

This person wouldn’t go on the trip at all.

I do not think they should stay at her parents’ house at all. They either need to stay at a hotel or not go. I know she doesn’t think a hotel is an option, but that would be the only reasonable way to see her sisters without having to stay at the house with her parents.
Her dad sounds like a nightmare.
