As a person who is incredibly claustrophobic, I’m 100% on board with not wanting to explore caves and any small places that would give me a panic attack.

So I can understand and empathize with what the teenager who wrote this story is dealing with!

But not everyone is giving her a break for how she feels about this…

Read on and found out why her family vacation has gone off the rails!

AITA for not participating in family activities on vacation?

“My mom always plans trips every summer for us to take.

I don’t remember the last summer where we didn’t have a vacation. I never complain about where we go or what we do, as I know my mom puts in a lot of effort, time, and money into making everything work for us now that all of my siblings are off to college, or living in cities hours away with their own full time jobs now.

She’s always left in the dark…

Though, being the youngest sister at 17, with my siblings ages ranging from 22-26, my opinion isn’t really valued when it comes to where exactly we go and what we do, especially since I can’t really contribute in anyway financially.

My family went on our most recent trip to Tennessee, more specifically the Chattanooga area. It’s a very pretty area surrounded in mountain greens and big open lakes. My mom has always planned our trips around doing and experiencing things in nature.

We went down to Rock City one of the days we were in TN, and if you don’t know what that is, it’s a long nature trail that is advertised to overlook 7 states at once.

One thing I didn’t know about the trails in Rock City is that some of them go under ground and make you squeeze through tight spaces. I was able to do those, but being a little claustrophobic it wasn’t that fun.

She wasn’t too crazy about this idea…

Around the later parts of our trip, I found out that we were going to Ruby Falls, which is an underground cave trail to see underground waterfalls. I was a little wary when I heard it was a cave trail specifically, and that it takes place 250+ feet under ground, and also that the tour was over an hour long.

When I looked up ratings of the place on Google, everyone seemed to enjoy the sights they saw but almost EVERY review said that if you were claustrophobic that you should sit it out.

I told my mom I was wary about doing it after looking at pictures and interviews, and my whole family kept saying how I was a “wet blanket snuffing out their flame,” how I shouldn’t have came if I didn’t want to do everything planned, and how I should have discussed what we were doing before my mom paid for 6 tickets for everything—me, my 3 sisters, my mom, and my step dad.

Now I’m sitting here at the hotel waiting for all of them to get back, feeling like garbage because I backed out last second. I do feel bad that my mother already paid for the tickets, but again, I wasn’t consulted about what we were doing before she planned the trip.

AITA?”

I really don’t understand why this is a big deal…

So, she misses out on a family activity on vacation.

Oh, well!

Her family sure likes to give her a hard time, huh?
