Her Dad’s Girlfriend Wants a Car for Work — She’s Pushing Back, Citing Vision Problems That Make Driving Dangerous

Driving gives people a lot of freedom, but it also comes with a lot of responsibility.
One woman started thinking about that when her dad’s girlfriend said she wanted a car so she could commute to a better-paying job.
The problem is, the girlfriend has serious vision problems and often doesn’t see things that are right in front of her.
So, when she suggested that the woman’s dad should buy her a car, the woman told her she didn’t think she should be driving at all.
Obviously, the girlfriend didn’t take that very well, so now she feels bad and can’t help but wonder if she crossed the line.
Read on to see how it all played out.
AITAH for telling my dad’s gf she shouldn’t be driving?
I, 25F, live in a large home with my husband, daughter, and disabled father, 65M, and his GF recently moved in, who is roughly 55F.
I actually love our big home, family-style house. And I love taking care of my dad.
His girlfriend is very blind and has a condition that will cause her to continue to go blind, as her twin sister is, like, 100% blind.
Apparently, his girlfriend supports a lot of family members.
She has been looking for work (grocery store-like jobs), and we have been fully supportive. Planning how we will get her to and from and accommodating her finding work.
The reason she’s looking for work is she has 3 children and a family in another country she pays for. All her kids are 25+, so not teenagers, and don’t work, or if they work, are not working full-time.
There is one car, but only one drives, and essentially, if they do work, they just buy their own ****. So she needs to work because she supports 5 households in the country she’s from and her 3 adult children, who are all fully capable of working and do not have any genetic eye conditions.
She told me my dad should pay for her to have a car so she can commute an hour to the city so she can work. The city jobs pay $17+ an hour compared to the $14 jobs in my area.
Shocked, she tried to reason with her about why it was a bad idea.
And I told her that was absurd. She shouldn’t be driving because she can’t even see laundry-sized, bright yellow stuffed animals on the ground or the large dogs we have.
Often, if my dad is driving and there is a deer, my dad will say, “Did you see that deer?”
And it’s always, “What deer?”
She could seriously hurt someone. And I explained, to me, it’s like driving under the influence.
AITA?
Oh no! Someone definitely needs to prevent her from driving!
Let’s check out what the folks over at Reddit think about all this.
This person agrees that the woman shouldn’t drive.

According to this comment, she should check into getting the woman’s license taken away.

Here’s someone with some good advice.

If you enjoyed this story, check out this post about a sister who held up her end of a college savings bargain only to be ripped off by her scheming older sibling.
This could be an effective way to convince her.

Sometimes the truth hurts.
Unfortunately, if her vision is bad enough that she’s missing large objects and animals, getting behind the wheel could be dangerous.
And while that may be hard for her to hear, this is bigger than hurt feelings.
She should probably talk to her doctor and find out whether driving is actually safe before anyone even thinks about buying her a car.
