There are times when telling the truth is not just hurtful, but also unproductive.

What would you do if your neighbor had a son who went to jail for inappropriate contact with a minor, but your neighbor insisted that it was the minor’s fault for seducing him?

That is what the woman in this story experienced, so she told the neighbor that she was absolutely wrong and that it was indeed her son’s fault. Her neighbor then got upset and stormed off.

Now her husband is saying that while what she said was true, she should have kept it to herself since the mother is in denial and likely grieving. She isn’t so sure.

Read through the full story below and see what you think.

AITAH For Telling My neighbor that the reason her son is in jail is solely his fault and not the victims?

So, my neighbors son was in the police academy, and I guess he had to do (I don’t know what you call it) an internship at a juvenile facility.

Wow, this is just awful.

One of the inmates there was a 13-year-old girl. Apparently, this girl stripped naked to entice him and they had ***, I dont know wether they got caught or the girl told, but it was found out, and now he is in prison for unlawful sexual activity and is doing 25 to life with no chance of parole.

My neighbor is saying it’s the girl’s fault because she enticed him and men can’t controls themselves. I told her that was a lie.

Of course, men are in control of their actions. But it is also understandable that a mother is in denial.

Men have have control he was the adult and it was is responsibility to tell her to put her clothes on, and walk away. She got mad saying men can’t ctrol that.

I said, “So, your saying your son has no reasoning ability, and that he is no more than an animal, which is another reason he should not be around a vulnerable demographic.”

Her husband is exactly right.

She called me a jerk and went back to her house in tears. I told her the only jerks in the scenario was her and her son.

Her for trying to blame a child, and him for falling for it and abusing a child. My husband says he knows I was right, but I should have said nothing.

This is just heartbreaking.

As a child who was abused and blamed for it by adults, I can’t. I was abused when I was 7 by an uncle, and my mother told me it was my fault because I enticed him by always being around.

She literally brought me to his house and she said I should have waited outside then and nothing would have happened.

Just because something is the truth doesn’t mean you have to say it.

So, when my neighbor said that, it triggered me. My husband hugged me and said he gets it and then apologized.

But part of me wonders if I am a jerk for telling my neighbor the truth?

No good could come from telling the mother this type of thing unless the mother just wouldn’t drop it in conversation. Of course, she is wrong, but she is also in denial and can’t see reason here.

Let’s see what the people in the comments have to say.

It is a horrible thing what the young girl went through.

This is a difficult situation to be sure. The neighbor is clearly in the wrong, but what good would come from calling her out?

Only the author of this story knows the neighbor well enough to know what the right thing would be.
