Imagine going to a store to buy something, but you’re told the store discontinued the product. Would you take it personally, buy something else, or shop somewhere else?
In today’s story, the customer seems to take it personally, and the employee finds the reaction odd.
Let’s read all the details.
Staring Contest
I work at a grocery store at the meat and seafood service counter; about a week ago a woman comes up looking for smoked pork neck bones:
Me: Sorry we don’t carry those anymore. We only have smoked ham hocks.
Her: Why not?
Me: They weren’t selling as well as the ham hocks, so they were removed.
It ended in a staring contest.
Her: Is there some sort of discrimination going on against people who eat neck bone? (Not verbatim, but she really did ask me this)
Me: (Proceeds to explain again why they were removed)
Her: (stares at me for 5 seconds, then walks away)
She’s not the first to stare me down, but when customers do, I try to put on my best poker face and just stare back.
The employee was clear in their answer. The customer’s reaction seems a little odd.
Let’s see how Reddit reacted to this story.
Here’s a sarcastic comment.

This person thinks the customer needs to go to another store.

She was probably speechless.

This person got pretty silly with their comment.

Here’s another funny comeback.

Customers say the silliest things!
