Sometimes in life, an uncomfortable situation can actually be a blessing in disguise.

What seems like a setback can, in fact, open a new door and close one that you probably didn’t want to walk through in the first place.

In today’s story, a man talked about how a trip to visit a house for sale with his wife and child ended up turning into a tense situation…and one that probably benefited them in the long run.

Let’s take a look at what happened.

My family was technically kidnapped after a showing.

“Myself, my wife, and our 3 year old went to go look at a home that we had scheduled to see with our realtor. This home came on the market the day before, listed for $220k (Median sale price is $185k in my area), and is way out in the boonies.

We look at the house, it’s kind of a dump (expected) but one irritating point was that there was only 1 bathroom when the listing said 2. Strangely the agents notes that were given to our realtor said the listing says 2 but there is really only 1. So it seems like this error was done on purpose.

Anyways, we talked for a minute and the agent left as we got our kid strapped into the car seat.

Things were about to get interesting…

Once we’re all buckled I go to leave and there is an older woman walking down the driveway (the only exit point) with an unleashed dog.

This is super weird because there is only one other house around and then a bunch of farmland.

The lady tells me roll down my window as a lifted pickup pulls into the driveway and stops at the end blocking our only point of exit.

I figure, okay, super weird but maybe the only neighbor was going for a walk and wants to chat about the house for sale.

Uh oh…

As soon as I roll down my window and say “hi” she starts her interrogation asking us “what are you doing here” telling us we’re not supposed to be here and that she’s the owner (the listing said no one lived in the space).

She looks around our car like a cop trying to size us up and when I explain we were looking at the house with a realtor.

She says that we are lying because nothing was scheduled for today.

My wife got annoyed and held up a picture she took inside of the house with the realtor and she still doesn’t believe us and the truck still doesn’t move so we can’t leave.

They just wanted to leave.

It goes on like this for about 2 minutes with her trying to get us to call there realtor to prove that we were telling the truth and me trying to stay calm and not curse or escalate the situation.

I told her I know for a fact her sellers agent knows we are there because our agent was texting her about her lying about the second bathroom and the sellers agent replied “yeah, but it’s a great place to watch the eclipse” (which happened like 4 hours before the tour so, weird response).

Eventually she accepts that our story is feasible enough and gives Hillbilly McThree Chins driving the truck a hand signal and he moves over enough to let us pass and we got the hell out of there.

These new potential neighbors sound like a lot of fun…

After getting home we do some investigation and find out the only neighbor is the child of the former owner and does own the house now (so she wasn’t lying). It seems like the sellers agent didn’t inform her of the tour and she panicked and went all redneck vigilante to protect her cat stained family home.

So this agent not only intentionally lied about the number of bathrooms, but failed to communicate with her seller and got us in a potentially very dangerous situation.

We looked up their agent and she is the owner-broker of two local Remax locations, so not sure she has a boss or anything.

What is the best way to get any sort of response or accountability out of this agent, because this situation was seriously crazy, and I think if I wasn’t an inherently calm person could have turned into a backwoods shootout.”
