Apartment Building Had Its Share Of Characters, But A New Neighbor Started Harassing Everyone And Disrupted The Peace

When you’ve lived somewhere for along time, the chances are you’ll know all your neighbours quite well. This doesn’t necessarily mean that you’re best friends with everybody, but at the very least you’ll likely have a cordial relationship and know everyone’s faces – and probably even their names too. This makes for a kind of familiarity that leads to a home being more comfortable to be in, especially when you know that there are good people around you who would have your back if something bad were to happen.
So naturally, if you live in a close-knit community, new folks moving in can always shake things up a bit. In most cases this just means a few new faces and names to learn. They’ll slot in easily and before you know it, it seems like these new people – who just live their lives causing no bother – have been there for just as long as everybody else.
That is, unless you get a challenging new neighbour like the one who is driving the folks in the apartment building in this story bananas.
Read on to find out what happened.
My neighbor is making life impossible for everyone in our apartment
We had this family move in here around a year ago, and everything was fine at first.
But for the last six months she has been a total nightmare for the entire building.
My neighbour is making everyone in our building go crazy.
She thinks she owns the whole building, she has zero respect for anyone, and she constantly crosses the line.
Let’s see how this woman behaves.
One day we accidentally left the TV on when nobody was home. This woman came to our front door and literally put her ear against it to listen. When nobody opened the door, she called my personal phone and started screaming terrible insults and slurs at me.
I tried to tell her the house was completely empty, but she did not care and kept yelling.
So I left school early (I’m attending the University in the city I grew up in, although the University was an hour away from where I live with my parents).
When I went home the television wasn’t even on – like it wasn’t working. I have no idea why she claimed the television was on. I thought my father left it on but it was off.
But that wasn’t the extent of the woman’s odd behaviour.
She watches every single person in the building like a guard. She complains when people order food delivery late at night.
She said she heard a food delivery around 9 or 10pm – I don’t think it’s that late for food maybe someone arrived from work late and decided to treat themselves with a take out or they simply were too tired to make food.
She also complains when they keep their lights on at night, or when they leave TV on in their own living rooms after 9pm.
She acts like we need her permission to live our normal lives.
Now she’s trying to make decisions that affect the whole building.
It is very hard to find a good cleaner for the apartment stairs, but one of our neighbours finally found a woman who works well for a fair price (you literally cannot find someone with that price and the only reason this cleaning lady made a fair price with us was because she is a relative of one of the neighbours, and she literally comes and does the job alone by herself).
This terrible neighbour went to the cleaning lady on her own and said, “I think we pay you too much.” She tried to fire her alone.
Because of this, she got into a huge fight with the neighbour who found the cleaner.
The woman asked this neighbour, “Who is going to clean the stairs then, are we supposed to do it ourselves? Almost everyone in this building has jobs. If we had time we would do it ourselves but there isn’t because most of these women come from work. They are tired and want to rest not clean the stairs.”
And other neighbours have even more complaints.
I don’t hear this because I’m like three floors down, but her downstairs neighbour had talked with her many times because she reads prayers extremely loudly at very early hours of the day (around 4am and 6am according to that neighbour). Her downstairs neighbour and next door neighbour can hear her.
The neighbour living downstairs works night shifts and needs to sleep during the day. She went to her house very politely and said, “Hey I work 4pm to 2am and you are praying so loudly that I cannot sleep. Could you please pray a little quieter?”
She did not care at all and she still does it every morning with zero respect. I don’t have any problems with her praying, no one has any problems with it except the fact she prays so loudly. She can pray at any time she wants, but she prays loudly and this is bothering both her neighbours.
We have another neighbour who prays but she is quiet and none of her neighbours have heard her pray – but we know she prays because she is sometimes unable to answer her door or phone because she was praying.
To make matters even worse, the woman is very discriminatory.
She constantly says very sexist things like, “women cannot do anything, men are better so they should do everything, women are useless and too emotional.” (I find this mind blowing because she is a woman too).
Even though my mother completely ignores her and does not even look at her face, let alone argue with her (which caused her pick up on my mother more than any of the other neighbours.
This woman constantly insults my mom and talks behind our backs, well she actually talks behind every neighbour that lives in the building.
Her daughter is just like her, she makes fun of people secretly and gossips all the time. Living in the same building with this woman is a total nightmare.
It seems like this woman really doesn’t like anyone at all.
One time our neighbour’s husband came across this woman and her daughter, and she picked a fight with him because why did he come inside the building when her daughter was there. Oh my god the audacity – like what can’t the man enter the building where he literally lived for the last 22 years or more?
Now, the man is a police officer and he has one daughter who is older than that girl, another daughter at that girl’s age, and a son who is going to start middle school this year.
I have known this man since I was a literal kid and he would never look at any woman (like he doesn’t even look at our faces because we might become uncomfortable, his wife told us this herself that he is always like this, even with his sisters-in-law and mother-in-law).
I remember whenever he went down from the stairs and two neighbours were talking with each other he would bow his head and went down without looking at them although he did said good morning (I see him mostly at mornings while he goes to work and I go to University).
Overall, the woman is just a real piece of work.

She fights with everyone, respects nobody, and ruins the peace of the whole apartment building every single day.
But we can’t get rid of her because she is the owner of the house she lives in.
Everyone has problems with this woman, and she is blocked by around eight of our neighbours (ten if we include me and my mother).
What a horrible neighbour to have to put up with.
It’s clear that she’s just making unsubstantiated insults and accusations towards all the people she has deemed not ‘good’ for whatever her ridiculous reasons are.
It sucks that the entire building is having to be affected by this.
Let’s see what folks on Reddit said about this.
This person thought there was only one thing to do: retaliate.

While others agreed that if the woman was refusing to be quieter, then everyone else should be louder.

If you enjoyed this story, check out this post about a woman who shuts down her neighbor’s construction project after her property gets damaged.
Meanwhile, this Redditor thought that simply ignoring her bullying and horrible behaviour was the best course of action.

Clearly given the woman owns her apartment, the neighbours have no recourse with landlords – she’s not about to be evicted. This is surely making them feel quite helpless, like they’re stuck with her and her horrible choices. And to some extent, that’s true. However, the entire building is aware of this problem, and for sure they’re stronger together.
It’s important that they make a plan and stick to it. Whether that’s making a non-emergency report for harassment when things go too far, keeping a centralised log of all of her nasty behaviours, or simply choosing as a whole entity to completely blank the woman, whatever they do needs to be coordinated. And it’s important that they’re still being respectful of one another too. Blasting noise when she’s making noise is one thing, but that would be even more disruptive to the poor woman who was trying to sleep in the apartment below.
If there’s one thing for sure, this situation isn’t getting resolved any time soon. But they can share in some camaraderie as they figure things out, at least.
