Sometimes helping your partner means knowing when to say no.

One woman says her boyfriend was caught speeding while driving her car, so the ticket showed up in her name.

At first, she thought he would just pay the fine, but then she realized the offense also came with penalty points.

He already has six points on his license and wants her to take these because she currently has none. However, she’s a new driver and could lose her license much faster if anything else happens.

Now he’s angry that she expects him to take responsibility for his own mistake.

Read on to see exactly what’s going on.

AITAH for not taking my partners license points

Me (28F) and my partner (29M) are currently arguing. I’m not sure how penalty points work in other countries, but here in Ireland, if you receive 12 points on your full license, you lose it, and if you receive 7 on a learner’s, you lose it.

My partner is a full-license driver and currently has 6 points. I have recently purchased a car, and I am a learner with no points.

My partner was driving my car and was caught on a speeding camera doing 102 km/h in an 80 zone.

At first, she didn’t realize the points would go on her license.

I received the letter in the mail addressed to me, as it was my car, but I was not driving, so I told my partner, and he said he would pay the fine. This was okay with me. I was not aware I would get points, and he never told me. It’s 3 points for speeding.

When I found out, I told him he would need to take responsibility, and I would have to nominate him to receive the points.

He’s been driving for years. I have only had my car for 4 months. I am a very careful driver, while he is not, and if I take his points, I’ve only 4 left.

Apparently, he’s really angry over the whole thing.

I start college in September, and if I ever did anything wrong, I’d lose my license, and this is my way to college.

His 6 points are from him speeding and being on his phone. He thinks I should take the points because if he does, he’ll only have 3 left. He’s very angry at me and told me to go **** myself over it.

We have been together 8 years and have a child together (5), but do not live together. He drives to see us more than we do to him. We live 30 minutes away from each other. He feels I should take the points because of this.

AITA?

Yikes! Maybe it’s time to reassess that whole relationship.

Let’s check out how the readers over at Reddit feel about the situation.

This would be good to know.

Those are not her points!

And it really sounds like that guy needs to grow up.

Getting that angry with her over a mistake he made says everything you need to know about him.

Seeing as they don’t even live together, it may be time for her to rethink the whole relationship. And she definitely shouldn’t let him drive her car again.
