Every neighborhood has at least one yard that never gets mowed, and this one came with an extra layer of pettiness attached.
One homeowner had avoided basic lawn maintenance for years, letting everything from grass to fallen branches pile up while defending it as a personal environmental choice.
His neighbor’s frustration grew over time, shifting from simple appearance complaints to real concern about allergens spreading toward her property.
Rather than considering any kind of compromise, he’s now planning to install a fence overnight specifically to shock and upset her once she notices it the next morning.

It’s really annoying and I need to get it off my chest, but I’ve been living in this house for 6 years now. I’m 28 and have always worked 2nd shift.
I used to pay someone to cut the grass when I first moved here since it was easier, but throughout the years, just like everything, it got more expensive, therefore I didn’t see the point of paying for it.
That’s when his neighbor started butting in.
My neighbor started, maybe last year, complaining about how the grass was really tall (I don’t really mow in the spring, it helps bugs and nature overall) and that my yard didn’t look pretty anymore.
Like honestly, I like my grass being tall.
The “mess” in the backyard is literally just nature. Weeds. Massive branches that have broken and take time to cut and burn, etc.
Lately the complaining has gotten worse.
Now she’s complaining about goldenrod growing close to the fence and giving her allergies. It’s got a pretty good distance from her yard and the fence.
Also, this is by the very bottom of her yard since she lives uphill, therefore she’s not remotely close to this.
I’m considering putting a fence up one of these nights after work, that way the next day she just wakes up in shock and spams my voicemail or texts.
She’s the kind of woman that would cry if I did something like that and wonder why I did it.
This neighbor sounds like quite the handful.
