She Loves Sleeping In — Her Boyfriend’s Alarm Clock Is Ruining Her Mornings

Trying to sleep next to someone on a different schedule than you might as well be like sleeping with a human alarm clock. No matter how much you love your partner, the early bird doesn’t always catch the worm here.
How would you handle living with a person who seemingly had no respect for your sleep schedule?
One woman recently aired her grievances about this situation on Reddit. Here’s what she said.
AITA for wanting to sleep in later than my partner?
I (38F) work in tech, and my schedule is pretty flexible, plus I work from home 2 days a week.
I like to sleep, and in the mornings I’m a pretty light sleeper.
If left to my own devices, I would probably sleep from 9 or 10 pm to 7 am every day.
This actually works out perfectly with my schedule.
Oof, that’s brutal.
My partner (36M) of 4 years works in construction and has to be to his office by 7 am.
He has a 40 minute commute, so he sets his alarm at 5:30.
We have had talks before about his alarm going off 3-6 times in the mornings, so he has recently adjusted it to where he can wake up after about 2 alarms.
The problem is recently that after his alarms goes off he lays in bed messing around on his phone, which in itself wouldn’t be a terrible thing, but he fidgets, and yawns, and the screen is bright, etc. It’s generally distracting when I’m trying to fall back asleep after his alarms.
This seems like a reasonable request.
I have asked him a few times to get out of bed and leave the room to go use his phone, so I can fall back asleep after his alarms, which always wake me up.
He says he doesn’t want to, that he is quiet in the bed, and that it’s cold out there, and that it’s “just a few minutes” and that I should just sleep through it.
And I’ve really tried, I know it sucks to get up with the other person still sleeping, it IS cold in the winter, and that it must be so much more pleasant to stay in bed, but I am really really tired of waking up at 5:30.
Any sensible person would feel this way!
I’ve bought a sleep mask, and I’ve tried really hard, but the alarms, then the 10-15 minutes of him fidgeting just wakes me up enough that I can’t sleep after that.
At this point, after asking a few times, it just kind of feels disrespectful as well, as it seems like not a huge inconvenience to get out of bed before looking at your phone, when it is something that I’ve expressed a few times.
It seems (to me) like a willing sacrifice I would make for a partner. AITA?
Her boyfriend doesn’t sound like the most considerate partner. Let’s see how the Reddit jury deliberated on this.
The comments all landed on one sentiment.

One person brought up a valid point.

Others called out the husband’s behavior.

Some being more sarcastic than others.

But ultimately, all tried their best to help.

One way or another, someone is getting a wake-up call!
