Woman Finally Has Enough Land to Keep Her Horses at Home—But Her Neighbor’s Dogs Have Her Worried

Imagine living in the country and owning dogs. Would you let them wander around on their own without a leash, or would you hold onto the leash at all times?
In this story, one woman and her family move to the country, and they bring their horses and dogs with them. It’s their dream home except for one thing. The neighbor’s dogs.
She’s pretty worried that either the dogs might hurt the horses or her horses might hurt the dogs.

Neighbor thinks my yard is her dog park
We just moved to a new state and bought our dream property; 15 acres with a barn at the end of a quiet, rural road.
We moved my horses onto our property instead of boarding them.
I love looking out any of our windows and being able to see them.
I have a 2 year old Morgan Horse and a 24 year old Haflinger.
But there are more than just horses in their family.
We also have a toddler, newborn, and dogs; our kids and dogs have a fenced in area in the yard to let them run in a safe space without bothering the horses.
Enter neighbor.
The first encounter was only with her dogs, we never saw her.
They never even saw the actual neighbor during this encounter.
Before my horses were brought from the boarding barn to our new home, we were out back with our dogs and a blue heeler ran over and started fence fighting our dogs.
It ran off when my husband started yelling at it.
We never saw the neighbor and never saw the dogs in anyone’s yard to have a conversation with them.
She finally saw the neighbor.
Two days ago, my husband was at work and I was in my son’s playroom and saw two blue heelers chasing my horses in their paddock.
I went out the front door and the neighbor was standing at the end of my driveway with her arms crossed.
I stayed in the doorway because it’s winter and I was holding my newborn. N is neighbor
Me: “my horses don’t like dogs!”
She hopes there aren’t any more encounters with the neighbor.
N: “I’m not intentionally letting them in your yard.”
Her dogs ran back to her at that point and neighbor turns around and walks away without another word to me.
I still don’t know which house she lives in.
I’m hoping we don’t have any further encounters with her or her dogs and we can enjoy our property in peace but I’m not holding my breath.
She’s pretty worried.
I’m worried her dogs will hurt my horses and potentially cause an injury that requires euthanasia.
Their legs are fragile, dog bites can damage their tendons to the degree they need to be euthanized.
I also worry that my horses will hurt or kill her dogs.
While I wouldn’t be liable for injury to her dogs, it isn’t a can of worms I want to open and I don’t want any animals getting hurt because their owners are idiots.

The neighbor needs to put her dogs on a leash!

When I read a story about a heeler dog, I can’t help but think of the kids TV show Bluey which features a family of heeler dogs. Anyone who has kids probably knows what I’m talking about.
But this story is definitely not about animated dogs on TV. It’s about a woman’s real concerns about her horses. Maybe a fence would help?
