Artist Carves Entire Alphabet Into Set of Crayons

The Northwest Natives Alphabet Set by Diem Chau is an incredible collection of 52 individually carved crayons representing every letter of the alphabet along with an associated word starting with each letter.
The artworks were completed for an exhibition last year at the G. Gibson Gallery in Seattle. Since the show was in the Pacific Northwest, Chau decided to pair every letter with a species that was native to the area. On her blog, she remarks that ‘X’ and ‘Z’ were especially challenging.
Chau (featured previously), a Vietnam native, came with her family to the United States as refugees in 1986. After receiving her BFA from Cornish College of the Arts, she has since exhibited her work in New York, Miami, Seattle and Los Angeles.
