Tolerance for casual small talk with strangers varies from person to person. But when one particularly chatty passenger wouldn’t shut up, one commuter just wasn’t having it.

After the passenger refused to take the hint, one commuter’s silent treatment came to a head at their final stop.

Read on for the full story.

Said Nothing

Some time ago, I was commuting home and ended up beside a woman who was addicted to conversing with total strangers about anything.

I’m the opposite and, in self-defense, buried my nose in a book.

Anytime she said anything, I either ignored her or grunted.

She refused to take the hints, and everything came to a head at their final stop.

We arrived at the last station at the platform where you have to climb a railway bridge to exit.

We stood up, she said “Don’t tell me we have to cross over the bridge”.

Deal!

So I didn’t.

No aftermath, except I recall a stunned open-mouthed face as I turned and left.

She didn’t have to tell this commuter twice!
