Finding a great apartment can be difficult, but with persistence, it is possible.

What would you do if you found an apartment that you love, but it requires a letter of recommendation from your previous landlord, and he hasn’t replied to your request?

Past landlord not responding to current apartment application inquiry, what to do?

My partner and I applied to an apartment and are quite frustrated.

First of all, when you apply online, it asks for minimal things, but this is a cheap complex anyways.

Turns out, they wanted an extensive list of information that has dragged on the process an extra 3 days.

I can see why this would be very frustrating.

Now they’re waiting to hear back from our previous landlord.

The thing is, this guy would take a week or so to get back to us as tenants, unless it was an emergency.

We texted him asking him to respond to the apartments email ASAP, so we don’t lose the unit or hundreds of dollars from applying.

Could they explain this to the new apartment manager?

It’s now day 2 and zero response.

It does not surprise us as this guy was very selfish and cheap.

He took $350 out of our $2500 security deposit to pay for his bills, but we were out of state by that point and there wasn’t much we could do.

This situation doesn’t affect his pocketbook, so he may not respond or take his sweet time if he does.

Maybe the new landlord would accept these things instead.

We have some emails from him saying he was glad to have us as tenants after we declared our move out notice and another email stating our deposit refund and what he deducted (which had nothing to do with us as tenants).

If we don’t get this place, we may be hurt a lot financially.

Does our whole application process rely on one guy who doesn’t care?

We are worried we’d get screwed by our past landlord though he was always a nightmare to begin with and we’ve done nothing wrong.

It is an unfortunate situation, to be sure, but I think if they explain it to the new apartment manager, they will likely understand.
