He Parked on a Public Street in Front of His Own House—Then His Neighbor Left Threats over “His Personal Spot”

When you live in a neighborhood, most people will have a garage and driveway that are theirs alone, but the street parking is available to anyone.
What would you do if you discovered that one of your neighbors thought he owned the street parking because he had used the same spot for a long time?
That is what happened to the family in this story, and every time they parked in ‘his’ spot, the neighbor would make a huge scene, even though it only happened a handful of times.
While it can be tempting to intentionally park there all the time just to annoy the guy, it is best to let him have his way and keep the peace. Read through the full story below and see if you agree.
Is it me or my neighbors
Context: I moved into a privately owned townhouse a year ago in a HOA neighborhood (first mistake).
It is good that parking isn’t a big problem.
Mine is at the end of the road where the street turns, so I only have one unit to my left. Everything is open street parking in the entire complex, with the majority of people having a single car garage in the back alley. Our street has plenty of parking, always.
The first day we were moving in, we pulled our car in front of the house to unload a few things. The neighbor gets out of his car and his wife stands in the doorway saying over and over again “are you gonna say something? Are you?” To her husband.
Their neighbors are way too sensitive.
Mind you, we’re standing right there. He then proceeds to tell us never to park there as we’re too close to the mailbox and if the mailman has to get out of his truck he gets angry. We apologized and said we’re just unpacking a few things for a few minutes.
Fast forward a few days, knocks on our door. Apparently we are too loud “slamming” cabinets and the fridge. We are extremely polite neighbors and we’re not doing that, at all. It’s just thin walls. We even bought the rubber cabinet stoppers to mitigate the sound of them closing.
Finding the right parking spots is a challenge.
Because we are towards the end of the street where it starts to bend and turn left, you can’t park directly in front of our townhouse.
It blocks the sidewalk entrance and makes it hard for people to turn into our street. Directly in front of our neighbors door is the furthest you can park, which is where he parks daily.
He doesn’t owe it to the neighbor to park far away.
No problem, we always park behind him and walk to our front door. It’s just a cars length away. Occasionally, if his car is not there, we sometimes park closer to our door if we have a lot of groceries or just because, why not.
If the entire street is empty, why should I start parking further down with nobody else there, just so that when he gets home his spot is open.
This guy is out of control.
There are no assigned spots, and most people park a few spots down from their front door anyway. The other day, our car is parked there and there are 0 others cars home as it is mid day.
He whales on his horn about half way down the street all the way up to our car, still slamming on his horn, cursing at us because “he’s parked there every single day for 10 years” and we needed to get out of his spot.
If he parked behind us, it would be an additional 5 steps to his front door, literally.
You just can’t please some people.
Out of courtesy and trying to be good neighbors we always parked behind him. I think in one year, we parked there MAYBE 5x at max and 5 of those 5 times he will illegally park in front of our car up on the sidewalk, blocking the handicap entrance and in an illegal spot because he can’t park behind us.
Is he just an absolute psycho, or is he an absolute psycho?
The neighbor’s reaction to this is really crazy. And it isn’t even like the person in this story is intentionally parking to annoy him either.

Now this would be funny.
He can park where he wants, but keeping the peace is also smart. Of course, sometimes when you give in to a crazy neighbor, they just keep getting worse.
Regardless, he needs to get a camera and document everything that happens.
