That’s the situation in this story.
One teen gives us a play by play of his day and what led up to his dad getting mad at him; however, he’s really not sure why his dad is mad. That seems to make his dad even more upset.

Today, when I woke up, everything started off the way it usually does.
My dad was sitting on the couch doing nothing with my mom while I was trying to find something to eat because there was barely any food in the house.
After the morning, I spent hours sitting in my room doing absolutely nothing.
The teen had a question.
Eventually, I asked my mom if we could go to Target because I needed school supplies that I had already been asking for for four days.
Of course, she said no.
Meanwhile, my parents were still sitting on the couch.
The timing was less than perfect.
I went back to my room for another two hours and eventually decided to take a shower.
As soon as I fully got into the shower, my dad suddenly decided he wanted to eat dinner, which apparently meant I was supposed to eat too.
He got really mad at me for not getting out of the shower quickly enough, even though I was already in the middle of taking one.
I ended up not eating anyway because the pizza he had made—the pizza he kept talking about like he had spent so much time making—was supreme. I hate supreme pizza, and he knows that.
But OP was hungry.
Around 8:30, I started looking for something else to eat.
My dad asked if I wanted food, and obviously I said yes.
Then he asked if I wanted butter pasta, and I immediately said yes to that too.
But then he told me I had to make it myself.
But there was a problem.
I went into the kitchen to make the pasta, but the stove was a complete mess. It looked like it would take at least 30 minutes just to clean everything off enough to actually make the pasta.
I stood there thinking about whether it was even worth it, and eventually decided it wasn’t.
I also know I’m not very good at cooking, so I figured I would probably mess it up anyway.
This seems unfair.
About an hour later, my dad came into my room and asked why I wasn’t making the pasta.
I explained that the kitchen was a mess, that it would take forever to clean the stove, and that I didn’t feel confident cooking it.
Instead of understanding, he took that as me just being lazy, so he took my phone.
But his dad came back.
About 15 minutes later, he came into my room with four-day-old microwaved leftovers that I already knew I didn’t like and that I’m pretty sure he remembered I didn’t like.
Then, while I was eating it, he kept telling me how much of a problem I was. He kept asking me to apologize to him and asking if I understood why he was mad at me.
Of course, I said no, because I genuinely didn’t understand why he was so angry.

That made him even more ticked off, and he hasn’t talked to me since.

It sounds like a lazy, boring weekend with very lazy parents and unclear expectations for the teen.
Is the dad mad that OP didn’t join him for dinner? Is the dad mad that the teen didn’t clean the kitchen? It seems weird to take his phone away just because he decided not to make pasta.

I have so many questions. Why are his parents just sitting on the couch being lazy when the kitchen needs to be cleaned? Are his parents really being lazy? It’s hard to know when OP is in his room by himself all day. Was the kitchen really that dirty, are was OP just making an excuse not to cook? Is cleaning the kitchen one of OP’s chores? If so, I could see why the dad’s upset.
Parenting is hard, but so is being a teenager. This family needs to get better at communicating.
