Some vacation planning disagreements start small and spiral fast.

One woman found herself questioning the entire trip after a simple cost-splitting arrangement got complicated by uninvited guests.

She and her friend had already agreed on an even 50/50 split for their DR trip’s Airbnb, food, and alcohol, a plan that shifted the moment her friend requested the primary bedroom for herself and her boyfriend, then suggested expanding to a three-bedroom unit to accommodate a local friend too.

Raising the reasonable question of why she should help pay for people who weren’t part of the original agreement led to accusations of being cheap instead of an actual conversation.

What began as a straightforward trip between two friends started to feel like something she no longer wanted to be part of.

AITA for not wanting to pay for my friend’s boyfriend and friend to stay with us on vacation?

My friend and I are planning a trip to the DR. We are doing 50/50 on Airbnb, food, and alcohol.

But before the trip even came to fruition, plans started changing dramatically.

However, now she wants the master bedroom with its private washroom and wants her DR boyfriend to stay the whole time. She also suggested getting a three bedroom so her friend in DR can sleep over too.

Now this woman is questioning what a fair split of the expenses really looked like.

I said I don’t think it’s fair for me to pay 50/50, why am I paying for her boyfriend and friend? I said if that’s what she wants, then she should cover their stay.

Her friend was quick to blame her for advocating for a different split, but she stood her ground.

She then said I’m cheap and tried to make me feel bad because they don’t have money.

I told her I find it ridiculous for me to pay for her people, and that she’s cheap because why can’t she cover them instead of me paying half of their stay.

Now she wonders if she should even move forward with the trip.

I’m honestly at the point of not even going, she’s making this all about her, and I don’t want to spend my vacation like that.

AITA?

What did Reddit have to say?

This is no longer the trip this woman initially signed up for.

Her friend is acting completely selfishly here.

Nobody agreed to fund a whole extra mini-entourage when they signed up for a 50/50 trip.

This woman isn’t being cheap for asking why she should help pay for a boyfriend and a random friend who were never part of the original plan, that’s just basic math.

If the friend wants to upgrade the whole trip for her own guests, cool, but that cost is on her, not split down the middle with someone who never agreed to it.

Calling someone cheap for not wanting to bankroll other people’s vacation is honestly kind of wild.
