Recovering from a serious illness, let alone chemotherapy, is hard enough without a house full of family members demanding energy from you. Healing takes rest, and that’s nearly impossible when peace and quiet are luxuries.

What would you do if your family didn’t step up in your time of need, but refused to let anyone else step up either? One woman recently shared a wild story about this with Reddit. Here’s what went down.

AITA for cursing at my sister for not wanting my bf to come over after my chemo?

I (21F) have an autoimmune disease that’s treated with chemo infusions.

I had an early shift on Friday then and I also had a chemo appointment after.

My boyfriend planned to come over after work to help take care of me.

On chemo days he usually brings food, helps me with meds, and cuddles and generally takes care of me, which especially after Friday I really needed.

That’s not super considerate on the sister’s end.

When I told my mom, my little sister (17F) immediately said she didn’t want my boyfriend in the house that night.

She’s very particular about her routine, and she likes cleaning on her set schedule, and she had already had to change it up because she was busy with finals and a few other things.

The issue is that when I’m sick, I usually end up on the living room couch because it’s closest to the bathroom and kitchen.

This seems perfectly reasonable.

I like being at my house so I know I have all the random things that help me, ie:chemo meds, nausea meds, teas, etc.

My boyfriend stays with me there and we normally just stay on the couch and watch tv, but she needs access to the back door to our trash bins and the laundry room.

She said she didn’t want him there because she doesn’t like going out and doing stuff when my bf is there.

I offered that we could stay in my room instead, but she said no because if I was in my room I would most likely use our shared upstairs bathroom instead of going to the one downstairs.

Her mom took her sister’s side.

My mom backed her up and said my boyfriend should just stay home and I should try to manage alone for the night, since my sister had already had to move back her cleaning day.

At that point I was honestly frustrated.

I told them I had worked that morning, just had chemo, and felt awful enough that I could barely stand.

They told me I was being extra and that I could compromise since we were a household.

Nobody in this house seems to want to listen to each other.

I told them I was truly feeling awful and needed the help.

My sister told me I was being rude and that I should be a better sister, and consider her routine.

I was admittedly in a horrible mood and told her to back off and that she was being ridiculous and packed a bag and had my bf pick me up.

My mom got upset at me for storming out like that and my sister told me she was very upset with what I said, and now I’m feeling horrible and thinking I should go apologize?
