There’s nothing quite as embarrassing as being out to dinner with someone and they’re rude to the workers.

Ugh!

It’s so gross!

But it happens over and over again, folks…

The woman who wrote this story got incredibly frustrated after a night out with her mom and her stepdad at a restaurant because of the way they treated the folks who worked there.

Read on and get all the details below.

AITA for refusing to go home with my mom after how my family treated restaurant workers?

“My mom and I went to a family dinner last night, and it ended with me yelling at her in the parking lot.

I (15F) strongly believe in treating people respectfully.

My stepfather, “Drew,” can be very condescending toward people he thinks aren’t as smart as him, and I feel like my mom has picked up some of this behavior.

This got off to a bad start…

At the restaurant, we were seated in a large booth in a back corner. I thought it was cozy, but my mom and older brother complained about facing a wall and feeling cut off. Drew refused to sit down and asked for another table.

The employees explained that they had a large reservation coming in and couldn’t immediately move us. Drew stormed back and announced, “We are not eating here,” ranting about the “horrible service.”

We got up to leave, and he and my mom complained to the employees on the way out. People were staring. The manager came over and found us another table. While he did, I quietly apologized to the hosts for my family’s behavior.

During dinner, my family continued complaining about how “rude” the employees had been. Meanwhile, our waiter went out of his way to make sure we were happy, and the manager gave us free dessert and comped our entire meal.

This made me feel worse because I didn’t think the employees had done anything wrong.

This really upset her.

I stayed quiet because I was tired and upset. My mom kept asking what was wrong and eventually took me outside. I started crying and told her I thought my family had treated the employees terribly and that we didn’t deserve the extra treatment.

She got defensive, and I told her they didn’t get to act like they were better than everyone else. I said I wanted my older brother to take me back to my dad’s house instead. I live primarily with my dad and visit my mom.

She refused, saying I was only 15 and couldn’t make that demand, and sent my brother home without me.

That’s when I started yelling. She told me her house was my home too and that I was hurting her feelings. I’ve told her before that I can’t stand staying there because of Drew, although I’ve also told her it isn’t because of her. I refused to call it my home.

Her mom likes to play the victim game…

She started comparing my problems to her much harder childhood. I responded, “I’m sorry my childhood wasn’t as hard as yours, but that doesn’t mean I don’t get to be upset,” and said I didn’t want to live with selfish people.

We argued for about 15 minutes before I agreed to go with her. She apologized afterward, and I said I wouldn’t interact with Drew. When we got home, I went straight to bed.

I later apologized to my mom for yelling but told her I stood by what I said about how the employees were treated. This also wasn’t the first time I’ve felt my family treated people unfairly.

I know yelling was wrong, and I feel bad about that. But I believe people deserve to be treated like people, regardless of whether they can give you exactly what you want.

AITA?”

I would’ve done the same thing!

This is so rude!

Good for her!

She did the right thing by giving her mom a piece of her mind!
