As someone who appreciates a good nap, I know whose side I’m on when it comes to the folks in this story.
Is napping on vacation a good deal?
Heck no!
And it’s even LESS of a big deal if someone happens to be sick.
Check out what this teenager had to say about why his family members got frustrated with him when they were on vacation.
Start now!
AITA for taking a nap on holiday?
“I (18M) am away on holiday with my mum (47F) brother (13M) and my mum’s boyfriend (45M). We arrived yesterday and are staying in some kind of caravan lodge thing.
Yesterday when we arrived we had to leave at 5 am and be up around 3/4 am, so I chose not to sleep as I knew I would struggle waking up and would feel worse with only a few hours instead of none.
We had 7 hours of travel, mostly by car, and I slept for most of it. We arrived around 7 pm, and after dinner me and my brother went to explore and walk around, and I was exhausted when we came back.
It was time for a snooze.
I slept a little late after unpacking but I slept over 8 hours last night and woke up feeling good and refreshed.
We went to the lake (there’s a lake instead of a pool) in the early morning, however I found the water really cold and ended up more paddling and standing up to my knees than swimming, unlike my brother and mum. My mum’s boyfriend didn’t swim either.
I ended up sunbathing and also sort of sitting there instead, I hadn’t brought my phone so I was just doing nothing. My mum kind of asked me what’s wrong in a disappointed way but I said nothing and she went to swim again.
I started to feel a little unwell so I asked for the keys to go back. 5 minutes after I returned everyone else did too as it had started raining.
We made lunch, I helped, we ate lunch and packed away. However, I started feeling unwell again, so I decided to go lie in bed. I fell asleep, and ended up sleeping for an hour.
Give it a rest, kid!
My brother woke me up a few times to ask if I wanted to go back to the lake, I don’t remember much but I remember him slamming on my door, flicking my light, yelling at me etc.
I don’t remember what I answered with but it probably wasn’t yes as I was basically asleep when he asked.
My mum and brother woke me up angrily 5 minutes before they’re ready to go. I didn’t give an answer but got up and went to the bathroom where I was unwell. I don’t think anyone noticed though.
These people sound delightful!
My mum told me I was ruining the holiday, and not being apart of the family and told me if I want to “buck up my ideas” or something that I should join them.
I texted her to tell her I was unwell when I came out of the bathroom but I don’t know if she has her phone on her or not.
I understand where she’s coming from but I feel it’s a little unfair as we haven’t been here even 24 hours yet, and I have a week to be doing things with them.
AITA?
Should I give in and join them and hope they forgive and forget?”

Good grief!
This doesn’t sound like a very fun vacation…
